VSG for Lower BMI - HELP!

Recommended Posts

I have a pretty good hunch that 5 years from now, VSG will be very common for patients with 30+ BMI's, and insurance will be covering it. Apparently in Europe they're doing it at that size already.

Hello everyone,

I'd love some input from you since most of these posts are from 2009-2010.

I had the lapband installed in 2002 and removed in 2012.

I've gained weight since January and am considering having VSG. My BMI is 32 and I'm desperate.

I have struggled with weight issues my entire life and am tired of being self-conscious, feeling unattractive, etc.

That being said, I'm so scared of the irreversible nature of this procedure. The lapband, for instance, caused a lot of problems but I was able to have it removed.

I was wondering if you'd be willing to share your experience with me, such as:

  • How long have you been sleeved?
  • How do you feel after being sleeved for several years?
  • How have you been able to maintain the weight loss?
  • Would you do it again?
  • How has the surgery changed your life?
  • Have you had any complications?
  • What words of wisdom can you give me?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Lexi

Politisa- I had a BMI of 32 but had comorbidities, therefore, for me, I have never been happier with the WLS. I am only 3 mos out but have lost a total of 42 lbs. My high blood pressure-gone, sleep apnea- gone, high liver enzyme levels- gone....you can see where I'm going with this. Anyway, I feel great & do want to say, I did a lot if research before I decided to do the WLS. With a VSG there is no turning back. Once they remove 80% of your stomach, it's not like they can put it back. We will all be here for your to answer as many questions as we can. Consult your Dr & ask him any medical concerns you may have. I have no regrets and have had a relatively easy recovery. My Dr released me to eat anything I wanted at 6 weeks but in moderation. I don't exercise like I should but am losing weight. I would probably lose more if I upped my exercise routine. Well, best of luck to you. I know u didn't answer all your questions but I hope this helps you some.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
