rlocke,

weren't you sent home with any pain meds? You shouldn't be in extreme pain. Call your surgeon and ask what you can take. If you're in constant pain you won't be moving around and that's necessary to move the gas out of your body. (Gas is part of the pain probably). Try to walk around inside your home every 1/2 hour or so when you're awake. Sip warm fluids, that sometimes helps and you can rest a heating pad on the sorest spots 20 minutes at a time. I was fortunate to be sleeved in Mexicali by Dr. Aceves, he doesn't believe in letting his patients be in pain! By the time I went home I was able to handle any lingering soreness with an over the counter pain med.

Hang in there.. it will get better by day 5.

RLocke,

I agree, your surgeon needs to know if you are in severe pain. There may be a complication that needs to be attended to. Please call him right away! Are you sipping clear fluids and allowing a burp between each sip? I found that at first, if I did not let a little burp come up, I had a lot of esophageal spasm, which is really bad pain. Also if I warmed my fluids a little, there was less discomfort swallowing. Warm caffiene-free spice teas were great, as well as home made chicken broth.

I did not need pain meds once I was home, but had a box of Toradol that Dr Aceves gives all his patients at discharge, in case I needed them. Your surgeon should prescribe something for you.

Let us know how you are doing! We are cheering for you and glad to have you with us on the loser's bench.

It will go away. I am not a good pain manager, and I felt much the same way at the beginning. A lot of, "what have I done?" "When will this end?" "What if I feel like this forever?" Well, now I am am one month out tomorrow, and I feel great! Really. I know the first is tough, but in one month I have lost 23 lbs. I am tickled pink, and I know you will be too! Hang in there. Sip and walk, sip and walk.....

I am now 9 days post surgery. I, too, was regreting the surgery when I first got home. I was crying that I had made a bad decision. Around the fifth day, I started to love my decision. The pain started to subside, I could get more down without being in pain, and started to see the pounds drop. Give it time. I was just there last week. Listen to what the Veteran Sleevers are telling you. It will get better.

I just want the pain and soreness to go away!!!

I had my surgery on Dec.2 and went home on Dec. 5. I had pain and nausea for about 1 week. The doctor said the pain was from the gas from the anethesia. I did not have any pain from the 2 inch incision. I only took pain medicine for the gas pain for 1 week.

I buy Wal-Mart Equate Brand Acid Reducer-----Ranitidine 150 mg. They are only $4.00 for 65 tablets. I take 1 in the morning and 1 in the evening. This seems to help my nausea and any heartburn sensations that I have. I have not been taking my pills for nausea and vomiting that were prescribed by the Doctor. They were generic for Reglan and I see all the commercials on tv about the side effect- tardive dysplasia, so I don't want to take the risk. I manage to do ok with the acid reducer. Also I always do better if I don't eat foods that are very greasy or too sweet. They make me feel more discomfort.

If medication for the pain does not help, then I would suggest talking to your doctor very soon about the pain. It should subside soon and then you will be on your way to feeling better. I was so happy when those gas pains left, it does tend to frighten us with the thought that it would be terrible if it continued for a long, long time.

I wish you all the best, and please let us know how you are doing. I sure hope you get to feeling better soon.

It is probably gas. Get some Gas-X strips and start walking around the house. I had surgery on 1/4 and was pretty uncomfortable the first few days because of gas. Once that went away, I was feeling awesome.

Keep in touch and let us know how you proceed.

It will go away, it has been 7 weeks for me and I barely remember it, but if you look bad through the threads, you will see, I felt the same too! You can do it, great job, walk it off, it helps!

I found that wrapping a velcro binder around my entire mid section was very helpful. Although the hospital didn't provide me with one I saved the one from a previous upper abdominal surgery from a very accomodating hospital and staff. It helped me keep my mid section and belly fat from weighing down on me when I moved around. I had 2 drains at home and I was still able to use it. I even wore it when I was able to drive. I wore it until I was completely healed. You can get one at a surgical supply store if your physician won't provide you with one.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
