Has this happened to anyone?

Recommended Posts

My employer abruptly switched fromBlue Cross to a small "benefits administrator" in late July. I was just beginning the process for VSG at that time and I had questions regarding the bariatric surgery benefit for both HR and the new insurance so they were aware of my decision and of my appts testing ect.

On Dec 18 I finished the last of my testing (EGD) and my surgeon was compiling all info for the insurance company.

On Jan 11th position was "eliminated" along with my health insurance. I'm thinking it is not a coincidence.

There is really nothing I can do. I am not sure if the 2 are related and if they are there is no way to prove it.

So my question for all of you....has anyone else lost their jobwhile in the process? How long are the tests ect "good for"?

Wow, that sounds like something you could fight! I'm so sorry that happened to you. . .I was self pay, so I really can't answer that question, but you really need to look into that.

If your position was eliminated, are you eligible for COBRA? I believe the 65% COBRA coverage is still in effect. So, you may be able to pay the 35% of your premium and still have the surgery and any possible complications covered. You have 60 days from the end of your coverage to apply for COBRA.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
