OK. Got sleeved on Jan 4th. The first week or so, having runny bm's. But the last week and a half or so, not having too many at all. Maybe one smallish one every three days or so. Is this normal? I know, gross topic. But I don't know who else to ask. :blushing:

Considering we don't eat that much solid food through the post-op diet, BMs will happen when your body is ready. If you are having to strain, or if it's painful, increase your Water consumption and possibly walking more can help get the bowels moving. But, if you aren't consuming a lot of solid food, then you aren't going go every day. I'm almost 8 months post op, and I go every other day usually.

Plus, we go from all liquids in with liquids out, to adding in some more solid food. The body may take a little longer to process it all.

I would say if you weren't having pain or discomfort then you should be fine. I did take Miralax a couple of times. It's a stool softener, no cramping, or gassiness. It got things moving, but I realized it was just normal bodily functions taking a couple of days to get used to the new diet.

The hi Protein lo carb diet is famous for causing Constipation, so your question is a good one.

I've been using a tsp of metamucil clear in my morning shake since I became constipated when starting regular food. Am going to soon try flaxseed instead, as it is more natural...but the metamucil worked. Be sure you nip this in the bud so you don't get painful hemorrhoids, that could require yet another surgery.

Once you are on regular food, prunes work really well too, for some people. Hi sugar content though.

Miralax is a great product. I was drinking it every other day until I had my gall bladder out. Having that out caused the opposite problem.

Thanks so much for the help! This is the only place I can get any answers! My doc told me I had gall stones prior to my sleeve. I asked why they didn't just take the gall bladder out at the same time, but he said they didn't want to add to the surgery if they weren't bothering me. I hope they don't start. I really really don't want another surgery. I'm a big giant baby. :thumbup1:

Thanks,

Stacey

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
