My Big Girl Panties!

Recommended Posts

Well 5 days away from surgery. :001_smile: I think I'm as prepared as I'm going to be. I did last minute shopping for things I need to take with me to the hospital. I bought a cheap gown to wear, just in case I feel good enough after surgery to wear one. I bought a comfy jogging suit to wear there and back. I also took peoples advice from this site and bought some "big girl panties". Sounds like your belly swells up a bit after surgery and big panties are more comfortable than your regular ones (not that my regular ones aren't big girl panties already:001_unsure:). I normally buy my undies at Dillards and never really paid attention to the size. I just pick up an individual pair, eye ball them, and then buy them. Well last night, I decided to go to Wal-Mart to look for those panties that come in packs. I've never bought undies like that before and was a little confused as to what size I needed. After some serious contemplating I picked a pack that I thought would be big on me and headed home. First thing hubby said when I walked in the door is "Did you find some big girl panties"? I pulled out the sealed pack to show him and started to open them up. The first thought that went through my head was "What if these fit me perfect, and I just think these are going to be big on me"? I would NEVER bring these back to get bigger ones. As it was, I made sure it was a lady cashier before I would check out and felt like I was waving them over my head as I walked to the check out counter saying "Hey everyone, look at these huge panties"! :lol0: Funny how our mind works, huh? lol Thank goodness they were big and will work just fine.

I actually wore bikini panties and my drain fit perfect in there! But this is after losing 40+ lbs with the band before the sleeve.

I loved your title "big girl panties" and the story behind it!! LOL

Some of my panties are so huge on me, it's sort of funny. It was the last thing I started buying when my clothes got too big. I still wear some of my old ones that are huge on me.

I'd like to get some bikinis but all I ever see are high cut. I don't like those that are really high on the sides. It's difficult, because they aren't something you can really try on!

Hi all

Well I guess I should confess, I have had a Tummy Tuck already!! Well it really was not just a tummy tuck it was called a tram flap! For any of you familiar with breast cancer I had a mastectomy and reconstruction. The type of reconstruction I had is called a Tram Flap. They take a football shaped section from your tummy and make a new boob with it! So I got a 2 fer!!! I have a new boob and a flat tummy to boot! Not exactly the way I would have chose to have the tummy tuck but worked well, and the insurance covered it!! So that is my confession for the day!!

Good luck to all, Bernadette

Okay you young whipper snappers.

You can buy the (my) Grannie panties at costco in packages of three. they are strechy kinda girdley things that fit to your body and do not bag~baloon~sag. I am still wearing the 2XXL's from when I was 252. they just shrink right down to your size. I can hardly wait to see them get baggy. HA!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
