Yay I have DATE and, DRAMA = [.

Recommended Posts

OK sooooo I am uber excited but also just the tiniest bit POed. I put my date out for April 20th. (a million years away) I have to pay cash so that is when it HAS to be. Well my father must have went and managed to tell the entire family one way or another, because today I logged on to my FB to find a sassy comment on my wall.

"Dont go to Tijuana, Youll DIE down there, YOU ARE STUPID if you go, just go to the gym instead"

I had no idea that anyone even knew, OR if I even wanted to tell the family until after. Plus posted on my FB, allowed the million people I know and go to school with to also get a glimsp of the decision I have made. I didnt want anyone to know, like REALLY. Of course I immdietly deleted it, but what's done is done now. I just wanted the joy of being 50 pounds lighter, well on my way to my goal and being about to tell everone, yes i believe in Medical Tourism and I am living proof in the powers of WLS. That has been taken away from me now....and I guess I am just angry and wated to RANT.

Thanks,

Tiffany

I know this is not helpful, but I would be completely PISSED as well.

What the hell was that person thinking posting it on your WALL. Geez....send an email, or something!

My mom and dad did the same thing over the holidays...told all the extended family...his two brothers, my mom's 13 brothers and sisters. I mean, really??

Thankfully none of them posted anything on FB. I think I would have had it out with someone.

So sorry. Do you know how long the comment was up before you deleted it? Ugh...you're right. What's done is done. Everything happens for a reason. So maybe it will turn out to be a good thing.

Again, so sorry. I'll definitely be angry with you! :smile1:

I'm glad you got your date, and I would be pissed as all get out.

My mom told my evil step-sisters bc she had to make a trip to Florida due to my complications. She told them my entire history yet she hasn't revealed to them that she had a band placed 26 months ago, and that's how she's dropped 75lbs. I was livid. My step-sisters are seriously evil, and this was just ammo for them.

I know how you feel. I felt some deceived and cheated. Now, I'm the talk at family functions even though we live 750 miles and aren't able to see everyone.

Just keep your head held high. Don't let those people (family or not) spoil or ruin your excitement about your date. That is an exciting thing. I shared my surgery date with my husband, parents, closest friends. Everyone close to me was very supportive, however, I got my fair share of "Are you really going to Mexico.... are you sure about this????, have you checked that Dr. out good>>>/// Everyone is so skeptical!

Keep your eyes on the prize chickiepoo!!! It'll be here and over before you know it!! It's a wonderful thing!!!

Good luck---keep us posted. Definitely stay plugged into this site-- it will help you stay excited and motivated to get ya to April!!!

I agree with jpetty.

Remember the 90/10 Principle. 10% of Life is made up of what happens to you. 90% of Life is decided by how you react to it.. We have no control over the 10%. The 90% is different. You determine the 90% by your reaction.

Try not to let it upset you, you are the winner in the end. Getting upset is just hurting you more. So get over it, be proud, be confident, if your not just act like you are, and soon you will be.

We are here for you, you can rant and rave all you want with us as we understand.

Congrats on getting your date!

Wow. I would be pissed too. I have told very very few people about my surgery. My very best friend in the world, my husband, my parents and my daughter's teacher. (I wanted to make sure that she knew what was going on and she could talk to her if needed-it was simply for my daughter's sake) I would be so so so pissed if someone wrote that on my wall. I am really sorry that they did that!

Wow. I would definitely be pissed about that! Some people don't know how to mind their own business. :001_unsure: My step-father's ex-wife read about my surgery from snooping around my mom's Facebook and told my cousin (that one cousin I cannot stand!!!) about it. I guess for me it wasn't that I was trying to keep it a secret from my family members in particular, but the fact that someone who had no business talking about me in the first place...bleh. Don't let the ignorance of other people get you down! You, and your doctor, and your immediate family know what's best for you so don't let anyone else get in your way!

Thanks Guys and Gals.

Like I said what's done is done. I took it down. So no telling who knows. I guess Ill just have to wait. Of course my WHOLE family is skeptic about Medical Tourism. SO now I am just looking forward to the " You thought I was gonna come back without a kidney" when I am 150 pounds lighter at xmas dinner this year. Jokes on them. I will be happy, healthy...not to mention sexy and RIGHT = ]

Defriend or UNfriend.... don't remember what the word is :) But there is a different kind of weight that needs to be lost alongside your 'regular weight'- lose the losers who try to derail you. :sad0:

First and foremost, breath!!!! Sometimes people have no idea how much their actions can hurt us!! Second: You will NOT die if you go to Tijuana, I' living proof! I have been there twice for surgery and not only did not die, I came back having had a great experience!! I heard the same thing before I went, it makes me laugh now!!! And the go to the gym instead comment, I would like to smack who ever said that!!!

Don't let any of this slow you down or deter you from your goals!! There will always be at least one person who has some stupid comment to make about your choice of WLS. Don't let it get to you, let it make you stronger!!!!!!! You can do it!! So rant all you want, but don't lose site of what you really want!!!

Well, I am probably older than any of you on this forum. I am 59. I have my sleeve scheduled for 2/5 and I am telling most everybody. I don't want the stress of having to deal with lies or secrets. I guess you learn that as you get older. I really don't care what most people think, except my dh. I am hoping that my candor ab0ut my surgery may help someone else take that step for themselves.. I hope you can come to some kind of peace with the "announcement'. Just believe in yourself and know most comments are made in ignorance.

Tiffany,

Wow! I would POed also. Like everyone else said, "Don't let this one event change how you feel". Everyone has an opinion. You continue to do your research and if you feel comfortable...then go for it. This is you trying to be happy for become healthier. I would really talk to my parents. I think that was unfair for them to share your business with the rest of the family. Betrayl!!! Good luck to you. Word for thought.....If we did what others wanted us to do all the time....we would just be boring puppets.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
