How long post-op does it take to drink(sip) a 16 ounce bottle of Water? How are you affected by cold water and ice? I like to eat ice. Just wondering if that will change after surgery.

Everyone is different, but I am able to drink 16 ounces of Fluid in about 20-30 minutes. I couldn't do that until about the 6 month post op. I am not a fan of super cold drinks, but that's my preference. I can drink fluids that have ice in them, but I prefer room temperature Water. The only time super cold fluids bother my actual stomach is first thing in the morning. I kind of think my stomach needs to "wake up", so I take my Prilosec with room temperature water.

I am 3 weeks out and can do a 16 oz bottle in 20 min or so, longer if I am not thirsty. I like my drinks cold, but I tend to swish them around in my mouth a lot and not drink everything in one swallow.

I drink a 16oz bottle of Water in 15-20 minutes. I timed it the other day (about 18 minutes). I'm like Tiff and don't like really cold water (ice water), never have. I like my water cool but not cold. I'm not sure I could drink ice water that quickly.

I can drink that in about 15-20 minutes--cold, room temperature doesn't seem to bother me, like MrNick said, if I swish it around. When I'm in the middle of exercising sometimes I can drink quite a bit really fast and it goes down smoothly and other times I have to take just a couple of tiny sips.

I'm just 6 days post op, it takes me 30-40 minutes. I used to drink ice Water, now just very cold water. It does taste a little different now. They let me have ice chips on the second day, oh they tasted like a bit of heaven!

Good luck, Bernadette

Hi sweetie, i'm 7 days out today and OMG let me tell you. . . i used to love water and could drink 100 oz per day without any problems. . .after surgery when they let me have ice chips, i thought it was the most disqusting thing ever. . .then i though just plain water would be better, nope could taste that horrible chlorine, even in bottled water. . . ok, lets add something into it. . .nope nasty . . . left water alone for a few days, when i got home from hospital i tried my fridge water and welches sugar free dark berry blend mixers. . . ahhhhhhhh now there is water. . . i had crystal light cran-peach, but it's to harsh for me now, welches is just right. . . .now at 7 days out it takes me about 20 - 30 minutes to drink a 20 oz bottle

It is strange how the taste buds change. I have tried different drinks that don't taste the same now. I also had some of my favorite chicken noodle Soup and it tasted like metal! I drink tons of Water and thank goodness it still tastes great!

So 7 days, wow I'm right behind you! So far I love my sleeve! I can eat and know when I'm full and then I just stop. I don't have any hunger pains, which is a blessing.

Good luck

Bernadette

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
