Colonscopy ??????????????

Recommended Posts

Has any one heard of this or had to have this done. A friend of mine has had her testing done for pre-op and I'm still waiting to be banded but she said she had to have a colonscopy (sp) before being banded. I wasn't looking forward to this. Did everyone else have to have this done?

Thanks everyone,

Can't wait to get my band,

My mother had to have one a few weeks ago to look for polyps, it was not band-related.

My surgeon used to require a bowel prep prior to band surgery, which is also what people having a colonoscopy have to do - maybe that's what she meant?

Not for a band... Is you friend old enough (50+) that there should be one in her file anyway? I'd think manometry was a better choice. But I never took a real science class.

Maybe Dr. Pleatman would let us know.

Uhh. Thank God I didn't have to have it. I probably would have skipped the band all together if I'd have had to have a colonoscopy. YUK! And I've never heard of anyone else having to have it for the band.

Not band related, but.........Never be afraid of having a colonoscopy. Be afraid of never having one!! It can save your life. Colon cancer is the most easily prevented cancer there is, and a colonoscopy is a simple, painless non-event test. Don't fear it!!

Yup, I just went to my huband's physical because SOMEONE had to say those five magic syllables...and neither he nor his PCP had previously mentioned it.

The prep is just the pits.

But the procedure is a NON-event. At least it was for me, and I had mine done at a place not known for spoiling patients...a VA hospital. But I said, "Ooo." And they said, "Buh-bye."

I think it was Roofies, because I don't remember a thing after the "Buh-bye" until the "Hello!"

I did not have to have a colonoscopy for my band surgery but I did have to have one to when the MDs were looking to find a cause for my Iron deficiency anemia. The prep the day before is not pleasant (to say the least) but the actual procedure was PAINLESS. You're put to sleep via an IV sedative and wake up less than 30-40 minutes later when it's over. I went shopping after mine.

Screening for colon cancer begins at age 50 but for people with other medical conditions or a family history of cancer, it's much sooner. DO NOT PUT OFF HAVING CANCER SCREENINGS!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
