Do you crave sweets?

Recommended Posts

I was a sweets eater. Spice gum drops, good and plenty's, chocolate mini bars. DAILY.

I am almost 6 weeks post op and have not had craving one. I am eating more Cookies now. I am eating these super thin ginger snaps. 2 with coffee in the morning. I am eating toast with PNB. I am eating the Protein Bars that are covered in chocolate about one every other day. the Protein Drinks are all chocolate. Maybe that is why no candy/chocolate cravings? I am down 32 lbs since surgery so the amount of sweeties I am getting is not a problem. I had a huge issue with being hungry right after eating. I was so embarrassed about that. My Dr. said he had never heard of it. Thanks Doc. I find out now that it is very common in obese patients. We have a high level of Gherlin in our stomachs. When the 60% of the stomach is removed so goes the Gherlin. I pray it stays gone. I can honestly say, even if you are hungry again, you will not eat much. I go for the Protein first. I get about 3 bites and am full. seriously. I drink Water all day. That helps with hunger. You will find what works for you. The sleeve is a tool we all have to learn how to use it with our bodies. Have patience, stay true.

I am really glad since I had the gall bladder out, I have not had much of an appetite. I don't know how that could be related. Maybe

pain causes a decrease in appetite.

Vegas,Has Bearded's cravings for sweets gone down? I know you talked

about hav caing his Vit. D checked. I think mine is less since I upped my Vit. D. I can't say it's completely gone. I wish I could say that. I wish things that were sweet didn't taste good the way surgery has made that happen for you.

Daisy -

No, he still has a sweet tooth - he has to have his blood drawn next week and hopefully they are going to check his Vit. D levels. Thankfully SF popsicles seem to satisfy the sweet cravings (most of the time)

I do not crave sweets at all like I did before surgery. I could not even think of eating a whole cookie or a piece of cake or a regular sized candy bar. I think that food has finally become something to keep me alive rather than something that I have to have every 2 hours because I am starving. I am not worried about food and I don't crave it or think about it ever waking moment anymore. The sleeve is a miracle for me.

I agree with Norma

Well for me, I still enjoy sweets. I usually just have a BariWise Protein Bar (mmmm...peanut butter /chocolate ~ enjoying one now) every evening after dinner. It is my "treat" for the day and the little bar satisfies what sweet tooth I may have. My cravings however, are usually salty/crunchy. RF Wheat thins are my current weakness. This usually occurs at bedtime and I can't stop thinking about the wheat thins in the pantry....they call to me, even though I am not really hungry. So to wrap up, I still enjoy the sweets (well Protein bar sweets) and use then to pleasantly boost my protein, but my CRAVINGS are strickly salty/crunchy. I couldn't care less about all the Halloween candy in our house this past month, just not interested....give me my protein bar and I was very interested.

I understand what you are talking about 100%. I am going through this too. you should not be ashamed of anything. but I read that nerves around the stomach being cut during surgery and they need time to recover. my hunger is getting less every day.

Enjoy, yes (especially chocolate). Crave, no. So I'm fine if I don't buy chocolate: or just get the 70% dark version which I can't eat more than a piece or two of... I've noticed I get some kind of reaction to super sweet things like candy or even fruit smoothies and the one time I ate a piece of cake I got a weird feeling: heart racing, faint nausea etc. So staying away from Cookies etc. is easy.

If I could choose I'd like to get sick once just after eating chocolate, that would take care of that issue.

It's an individual thing. I had my vit. D level checked because I hear that a low Vit. D causes cravings for sweets. Mine was low. I crave sweets a lot and I still eat them. My friend who is sleeved also still craves sweets and eats a lot of candy.< /strong>

Thank you for sharing this! I will have mine checked because I have been craving sweets like crazy and it's starting to make me feel bad. I didn't come this far to start those bad habits again.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
