Introducing myself

Recommended Posts

Hey there everyone! I have been reading the boards for a few weeks now and decided that i needed to introduce myself to everyone. My name is Danielle and I'm 28 years old. I have been researching the VSG for awhile now, and I've decided (with the help of reading the wonderul information on this board) that it is the right path for me. For awhile I was leaning towards having the Lap Band done but that is soooo not for me. I have a wonderful support system. My parents are totaly suportive as is my younger brother. I've also gotten alot of good feedback from other members of my family. I think the moment it was real for me was when I decided I needed to talk to my 16 year old godchild about me having the surgery (I just wanted to see his reaction) He got the bigest grin on his face and said "O Man! A skinny Nanny! You have to do this!" It made me want to cry.. lol.. I know I'm such a sap. I also have the best boss in the world. When I told her I was thinking about VSG she wanted to advance me sick leave and have surgery the next week. LOL... I had to explain to her that it didnt work that way.. lol that I had to meet with the Doc and do pre op tests and stuff first.

I have meet with a local Doctor in Baton Rouge. Dr Hausman. He has actually done surgerys for people I know. He did my Aunts VSG last dec. (She has lost like 148lbs since dec) Also did a freinds lap band and a freinds husbands VSG.

I attended their support group meeting and found it very informative and helpful.

I have not set a date or surgery yet. But I am thinking of schedualing for the begining of Feb. My birthday is January 11 so i was thinking I can start the liquid pre-op the day atfer my b-day and then I'd be set.

All that being said "I AM TERRIFIED!" I have never been in the hospital before, never had surgery and HATE doctors!

I know I have time to work myself up to this and I know its the right thing for me to do and i'll be starting a new life but im still scared. :)

Welcome to the forum Danielle. Thanks for sharing your story.

To me the surgery was a piece of cake. I was up walking around the hospital and walked around outside on the same day I had surgery. You will be fine. You have great support and will be so glad you had it done.

Believe in yourself Dani. You are a smart, strong young woman. You have not made this decision frivolously. You are serious about finding the right path for yourself and have and will continue to investigate for yourself all the aspects of this decision.

The future is always terrifying in some aspects. That does not mean we will not go forward, right?

Trust yourself, be strong in your heart.

Know you will do well with this~ and you will.

Welcome Danielle! I had my first surgery and hospital stay in January of 2009 and then my second (VSG surgery) in August 2009 at the age of 29. I was also terrified of the unknown, but it wasn't that bad. My VSG was actually quite a bit easier than the first surgery. Having this wls has been one of the best decisions of my life so far.

It sounds like you have excellent support. I wish you lots of luck on the rest of your pre-op journey!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
