Heftynetty checking in after difficult surgery

Recommended Posts

Mountain Lover: I had the band in 2006 and I was 297, I lost 70 lbs. I then got pregnant and gained 35 lbs, which I lost when I had her. I then got to about 240 and was stuck there for a year. I started going to the doctor because I thought it was odd that at 2.6cc I was losing great and then after the pregnancy I was at 3.6 and could not lose a pound and could eat anything I wanted. I had some Upper GI and they found that the stomach was over the band and the only way to fix it was doing surgery. My doctor suggested the VSG, because I have had other problems with the band, in 2006 that was my second band. Anyway, I had the VSG surgery and 3 days later they found there was a leak, I had another surgery to repair it but the tissue was too weak so I now have a hole in my stomach. A GI doctor put a stent in mmy stomach to cover the hole to try and get it to close which it is slowly. He said I should of not had my stomach messed with because of all the scar tissue from all the other surgeries. So it was due to the VSG surgery but only because my body was not okay to be messed with. Anyway I was 245 when I went in for the VSG surgery and I am now 219. They do not want me losing weught though, it does not help with the healing process. So that is the story in a nutshell. If you have anymore questions let me know!

I am so sorry to hear of your complications. .what a terrible time you are having. . I'll keep you in my thoughts and hope you get feeling better soon. . . being sick is so frustrating, you want to help and do things but you can't. . just be patient (6 months of patience is a long time)it'll get better eventually. . . I really can't say I know how you feel, cause I don't. . .so again, I'm so sorry. . .

Thank you for explaining that, I was so confused. I really hope and pray that you have a speedy recovery so that you will not have to suffer any more and then maybe they will give you the ok to lose more after it heals. I am grateful for all your comments, because that way when I do have my surgery on Dec. 2 I will be more informed. I am glad that I found this forum, because I really get stressed out not knowing what to expect in any given situation most of the time. I know your story is very touching and my heart goes out to you. You have no idea how much your story has helped others. Please come back to let us know of your progress. I hope you become stronger and healthier with each passing day.

Janette-

I felt so badly for you as I read your post. I will keep you in my daily prayers for strength, patience, and a speedy recovery. Look at the positives, there are some. I have dealt with severe depression in the past and I know how difficult it is on the mind, body, and soul. Take good care of yourself and enjoy your home and family. Take it easy.

Sandy

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
