Heftynetty checking in after difficult surgery

Recommended Posts

Well I have been home since October 6th. I am on TPN and have a stent that will not come out for about 6 more months. I still have a drain, but the hole in my stomach is getting smaller and I am hoping that in another month or two it will be completely closed and then I at least get the drain out and can slowly start eating. I have not had a bite of food since before surgery in August!! I just got off of my atibiotics on Sunday and I am finally feeling like myself. I hate being hooked up to this drain and my central line, but I am home with my kids and starting to feel better! I appreciate everyone's thoughts and concerns. I have such a negative attitude about doing this, I regret this everyday of my life, I wish that I would of just taken the band out and called it a day. The GI doctor said my stomach was too weak to perform a sleeve surgery and it should not have been done, but apparently my surgeon felt okay with it and now here I am!! I am finally coming out of my depression mode, but I will always regret doing this!

I am so sorry for all that you have been through. It is good that you are home with your family. I'm sure you are resting better. Seems like hospitals are no place to be when you are hurting, tired, and discouraged. Hopefully now that you are home with your family, you will heal faster with their positive vibes. Please know that you have been in my thoughts and prayers. Sending hugs and wishes for complete recovery your way.

Thank you for letting us know what is going on with you. I have been on a lot of different forums for a long time and it never has really bothered me when members just disappeared, but I was really concerned about you because of the things we deal with here on this board. I am truly relieved to hear that you are recovering, and we will continue to think of you and your journey.

Janette -

THANK YOU for letting us all know how you are doing - we were so concerned for you. Even though we both live in Nevada, we are so far away from one another. If you need anything or I can help in any way, please PM me.

I am sorry you have gone through such a horrendous time. I am glad you are out of the hospital and home with your family. I will pray for you that all other issues resolve and that you are able to get on with a "normal" life without TPN bags, drains, etc.

Janette,

I am glad to hear you are on the road to recovery. We have all been thinking of you.

I hope when you are a much thinner you, it will become a distant memory and you won't regret that you have a sleeve. You now have a tool to keep your weight under control. I am really sorry for all that you went through but I think you would have been disappointed to gain weight back after band removal.I hope every day is easier and you are feeling better.

I'm so sorry to hear you went through so much. . .but we are never given more than we can carry. . . apparently you can carry alot! I'm new to the forums (since Sept) so haven't had the opportunity to "meet" you! Hi! Did the lapband cause you this problem or VSG?

I think she is saying that the band damaged her stomach so much, that it wasn't ready to be more traumatized with a gastrectomy.

Jeanette, I can't believe all you have gone through, thank God you are doing better. We are here for you and support your healing. There is nothing we can do about the past, you just have to keep moving forward, the worst is over now, the best is yet to come.

Wow, and to think I was so set on having a lapband done. . . maybe hubbie had a premonition and that is why he refused to support me in that. . . I'm glad he told me to have the sleeve. . .

I am so sorry for all you have been through. Revision surgery is always riskier and you have been extremely unfortunate. There's nothing more I can say except that I hope you continue to get better. Much love x

Janette, I'm so glad to hear that you are home, and with your family. I know how miserable the central line and drains can be. I wish you the very best, please continue to check in with us when you can.

I hope you will at some point not regret doing the revision, but know how depressing and exhausting having to deal with horrendous complications.

I'm here if you ever need to talk, vent or just need someone to listen.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
