1 week post op question

Recommended Posts

Im 1 week post op now and overall feel pretty good. The only problem im having and maybe its normal is my stool in very watery (brown) and lots of noise from my stomach, steady and loud. I read where a couple of you had the opposite problem being constapated. Is this normal what I have? Im still on the Clear Liquids maybe thats it?

Perfectly normal. I had a lot of watery bm's while on the clear and even the full liquid stage of the post-op diet. I didn't deal with Constipation until I hit the soft solid/solid stage of the diet.

Liquid in, liquid out for now. Just keep sipping so you stay hydrated.

Yep, normal. Once you start on more solid food, you might want to take some Miralax or similar product on a regular basis to prevent Constipation. It can get pretty uncomfortable. Keeping things moving along also helps prevent "constipation stalls" in my opinion. One day I "dumped" four times and lost three pounds overnight!

ok I was kinda wondering if its all this liquid...... so the Constipation comes later eh :scared0: lol

Hi bigdd, are you from Canada? Detected the accent (eh). . . hehehe. . .apparently yes diarrhea is a normal thing with this surgery. . . and like Tiffy said, liquid in, liquid out. . . that is a really good way to describe it. .

Can I ask -- does Imodium work? I just found out I have a big meeting at work 10 days after surgery! I'm freaked.

I talked to the contact LPN and she suggested taking benefibre every day to help with the clumping and so far it is working. Before the BM's weren't steady, you went normal but it was straight liquid.

Constipation, diarrhea, gas, bloating...all normal for me until 3 mos out. I still can go days w/o a BM, which is fine with me.

I only had one bout of Constipation, and it's because I ate a bunch of cheese one day.

I am only 1 week out. I just had my first bowel movement this morning.

It was very firm/hard. It took a while but everything came out ok (pun intended) LOL. I was worried about being constipated. I don't get much noice from my tummy. I was pretty "windy" the first week though.

Everything is GREAT, I've not had one problem at all. I've tried some things here and there, especially this week. Peanuts (chewed to mush)

pureed porks chops in gravy (only ate an oz) very good. I've had a couple bites of refried Beans & mashed potatoes. All went down well.

Im just wondering Judy. Did you have the sleeve? Are you supposed to be eating already? I had to go on 1 week of clear fluids 2 weeks of full fluids

1 week of soft food then other food........no nuts for a couple months. If you had the "sleeve" im amazed at the differance in post op diets:ohmy:

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
