Is it possible to prevent Band comps??

Recommended Posts

Hey there! I wanted to add my two-cents worth. For the past month or so, I'd PB a lot. If Breakfast came up, everything else -ALL day- would come up. Over the Memorial Day weekend, I was out of town and I PB'd after almost everymeal. Tuesday after M-day, there was a little blood w/lots of acid in the PM. I called my Dr. Wed. and went in for a berium swallow (yum!) and discovered my stomach has prolapsed. Because of PBing a lot I suppose, part of the stomach has come above the band.

Well, long story short... All the Fluid was removed -- I'm on liquids for a week and mushies for a week. They say it fixes itself most of the time. Cross your fingers and say a prayer. I don't want to go through surgery again.

Lesson learned -- Eat slower, smaller bites, chew & chew & chew!!! Don't try to keep eating the things I know will most likely make me PB. Hopefully, I won't have to go through this again.

Take care and God Bless.

Pam, I think you're on the right track. Seeing your doc so quickly should make all the difference. My band was cutting off the blood supply and virtually "killing" the tissue of my stomach. The band slipped to the maximum. The surgeon wasn't even sure he could correct the damage by removing the band. I literally escaped death by 2 days. My case was the extreme. Again, You are being so smart to see your dr. My doc was in MX, so the surgery was done by one in the states who only took my case because a dear friend called him. I pray that doing what your doctor says will be the answer. Believe me, you don't want to have the band removal surgery. My prayers are with you, sincerely...God Bless and Keep You.

I don't think you can prevent erosion... unless you are just scary tight for too long.

As for slippage, avoiding vomiting... PBs... etc. No pouch packing. I really think that the Band should be used as a tool with a diet program like Weight Watchers. Use it so you can stick and be happy with the diet... but don't depend on super-duper restriction to lose all of your weight.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
