Vitamin Question??

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone-

I'm a couple days out from my surgery, and have been trying to find the right Vitamins. I found this Vitamin drink from One-A-Day. It seemed to be about the same as the other tablet vitamins, but do you all have any cautionary words about it? Any other suggestions? :confused1:

Thanks!

It's good to take Vitamins and a lot of people take chewables or liquid for the first few months post op.

I use Gummy multi-vitamins (Costco carries ones for adults; however I am taking children's right now - I just take 3 instead of 1). I also take B12 suspension that I found at Wal-Mart (thanks to OregonDaisy) and they taste really good. Other than that, I am not taking any other Vitamins as my doctor did all types of blood work and my labs all came back great.

I accidentally bought the children's gummi

vitamins at costco. I never know how many to take since they aren't adult Vitamins. They taste so good I am always tempted to eat more than I should.

The jar tells you how many to take - I believe it says 2 - I have those same vitamins and that is what it says -- sometimes I take 2, sometimes I take 3. I figure an extra one now and again won't hurt.

All the Vitamins I found were huge and horrible, so I didn't take any. Now I have a Vitamin B12 deficencey and have regular B12 injections. I wish I'd found a good liquid vitamin and taken it :001_tongue:

I found a bottle of "Spring Valley brand sublingual DOTS B-12 500 mcg" at Wal-mart. 200 natural cherry flavored Microlozenges that you put under your tongue for 30 seconds before swallowing. They are suppose to help: formation of blood cells, nervous system, and maintain normal levels of homocysteine for heart and circulatory health (Energy Metabolism). You should always check with your Dr. first before taking suppliments. I carry them in my purse, because you can take 1-3 per day. I hope this helps.

Also I found chewable chocolate sugar-free calcium citrate with vitamin E & K at Wal- Mart. And chewable Centrums Multivitamins to take 1 daily. I also bought a bottle of super complex B vitamins that I have to swallow, they go down ok, but they don't taste very good.

I did not buy this, but I did notice that they had a box of Liquid Sublingual B-12 with complex B vitamins.

At GNC I got some CHEWABLE Calcium CITRATE WITH VITAMIN D-3. I had to ask what the 3 was for. The fellow told me that it means they are more easily absorbed.

I hope all of the things that I purchased I will still be able to use them after surgery.

Very interesting thread.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
