I guess I am just a determined side sleeper- I was doing it in the hospital right after my surgery. It would take me a few minutes to get there but I did it...lol

I think it was about a week before I was sleeping on my side, too. But, I do remember I put a pillow under my tummy just to give it a little extra support.

That is a fantastic weight loss Cajun.

I have to sleep on my back according to my ortho doctor, so I got used to that years ago.

It took me a week to Cajun. I feel like I am sleeping on a slab when I am on my back! Great weight loss for the 1st week! Keep up the good work.

Clarification That wt loss includes 17 lbs pre-op liver shrinking wt loss! I'd probably be horizontal if I had lost that much in 7 days!

That's great Cajun -- I think it took me 2 weeks before I could sleep on my side. Bearded was sleeping on his side in the hospital - I so hated him for that! LOL

You can't sleep on your side because the incision where the drain was is extremely tender - like a pulled muscle - and it hurt to lay on that side ... at least that is why I couldn't sleep on my side - guessing the same for Susan and Cajun.

Yep, that is the same reason I couldn't sleep on my side. I also like to sleep on my tummy, but it was a bit longer before I could do that.

I had little trouble sleeping on my left side, shortly after being home from the hospital, however for the last 2 nights I've had acid reflux awake me from my sleep and this has forced me to prop up pillows and half sit half lie on my back! Very uncomfortable. I don't get it. I started taking prilosic(sp?) yesterday and the reflux seemed to have been worse! I don't know if this will help but I think I'm going to back off any soft/mushies and stick to full liquids only for a while. The reflux is not fun, I nearly choked last night and woke so abruptly from it.

When I first got my sleeve, I was on the nexium. When I ran out, I tried going without anything and had major reflux. I was probably off the nexium for at least a week before I started on the prilosec. It took about three or four days of being on it before the reflux completely subsided. Hopefully, yours will show improvement over the next few days as well. I also have to make sure not to eat to close to bed time, or I have problems.

Thanks Susan, I've been feeling the feeling like air is stuck in my chest for the last 2 days and I try to burp but the trapped air or gas? still lingers. I guess I have no choice but to perservere and take the Prilosec. I'm also taking Reglan 4x per day. My surgeon told me to take it , it's an anti nasuea med but he said it helps to "push things through". likely coincidence, but I wasn't having reflux to this extreme until I starting taking these meds. BTW, all my meds are generic. I'm hoping that that shouldn't make a difference. Thanks again.

Wow, I hear all these things, nausea, acid reflux, pillow under tummy, can't turn, so my question is how much pain is there with this surgery? Hopefully nothing like a c/section

I can't compare it to a c/section but it is a major surgery. I'm too early out to be able adequately give my opinion. As for now, for me, it is a struggle, I am hoping that in time I will look back and like so many others be glad I made this decision.

I've never had a c-section; however, this was my first major surgery and I didn't find it bad at all - the only pain I had and I wouldn't even call it a pain so much as an ache (like sore muscles) was where the drain was - once it was removed, the incision was still tender, but there was no pulling feeling like when the drain was in.

I was up walking within hours of the surgery and only had pain medicine the first night - and that was more so I could be sure to sleep.

I didn't have any other pain meds after the first night. The heating pad helped with the gas pains from the CO2 given during surgery.

Everything you're experiencing Lan is normal and it will pass and you will be happy with your decision ... I thought the same thing as you and that is passing!

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
