I know what you mean Chancie, more than 30 min walking on the treadmill is boooooring...running has never been my style, my boobs were always so big, so bouncey..ick..and now I have arthritis in my knees. But, I really was interested in a swing dance group, but too far away. What about jazzercise? I have heard it is fun and it's dancing too. Any thoughts out there about fun exercise for the over 50 crowd, who cannot run anymore?

You definitely need to find something you love to do or you'll stop doing it. I love to swim and bike and I was willing to run because I wanted to do a triathlon. I'm totally hooked now and I even like the running! I never thought I'd say that.

But there are other things. I like Pilates and Crossfit and TRX. There is also ballroom dancing and all the different classes at the gym where you workout to music. Some people like team sports and join leagues. There are so many choices out there!

Yes, and you are doing incredible! You should be so proud of yourself! You can totally kick butt. Rock on Mac!

I can related to the addiction of the rush of endorphins (can't remember how to spell right now) I am totally addicted to the feeling working out on the treadmill brings, but 30 min is all I can take...

I have never have been much of an athlete..never been on a sports team, except bowling, and I sucked at that..

Dancing is fun, but when my ex and I took ballroom dance classes, I sweat like a pig and my face turns beet red, even when I am skinny..not pretty, but I LOVE those beautiful gowns. Remember disco dancing, now that was fun~

It does all sound like excuses, I have always hated the *gym*..went with my ex back in the day and did the aerobics thing, but those structured classes drive me crazy...like to exercise to my own varied schedule. yadda, yadda, I know.

Swimming, I have really poor lung capacity..so it's not fun at all, unless I am just flopping around in the pool, pretending to be a mermaid..hehe..

Oh well.......just rambling right now.

Oh, do you remember disco roller skating? That was sooo fun back in the day. But, that was 100 yrs ago..

I don't mind any cardio machine at the gym as long as I have my earphones on and I am into whatever I am watching on tv. I do this one machine that's an elliptical and a stair master depending on how you move your feet.

I remember when 30 min. on the treadmill was my max. You just have to build up slowly.

There are still roller skating places around, but not as many as there used to be. If you hate the gym, how about Crossfit? My group meets in parks and we do something different every time. It's intense but SHORT.

Okay, new weekend, new questions:

1) Weekend plans? Deep Pit Posse Party - started last night - runs through tomorrow. Ruthi is in town too!

2) Beatles: Overrated or Musical Geniuses?

IMO - musical geniuses

3) Name something positive that happened to you this week. My boss came back from vacation and said to me "Look at you getting all skinny!"

4) Do you like your job? LOVE my job, can't stand my new office companion; however, working on getting that changed.

1) Weekend plans?

Watch as much of the Ironman World Championships (Kona) as I can. A picnic with an old friend and his son who just got a lapband. A dinner dance tonight with my Ice Dancers group. Open Water Swim/Run brick tomorrow AM.

2) Beatles: Overrated or Musical Geniuses?

Geniuses. I went through an Overrated period but my family has been playing Beatles Rock Band for over a month now and I'm not sick of it and have been enjoying the variety. There are very few artists out there that have their body of work and that you don't get sick of after a month of constant listening to.

3) Name something positive that happened to you this week.

Apple replaced my iPhone that was acting up and now I have cell phone coverage again! Oh and I fixed a bug that I've been working on for over a month. (It's more of a feature than a true bug.)

4) Do you like your job?

I like the work, but I hate my work situation so much that I can't even enjoy the work lately.

Iron man, that is it, now I remember, brings back so many memories of my ex, he loved those contests.

This weekend, a class reunion, 1970-1979, 1000 people are going. So have to stop at Macy's for a nice top, if I can find one. It's casual though, so my new jeans are just right. They want everyone to wear orange or one of the tie-dyed orange Ts they are selling. They are ugly to me..ick..

Getting the motivation to get on the treadmill, then pack for the reunion.

Great thing this week? Got a wonderful annual evaluation at work, started back on strickly Protein and already lost 1 lb.

The Beatles..not my thing, but I was only 8 when they were big. So, by the time I could really appreciate them, the band was already falling a part from one another. But, John & Paul together - sheer genius. *Michelle* loved that song and played it over and over again on the piano..The love songs Paul wrote were simply beautiful.

Okay, new weekend, new questions:

1) Weekend plans? My house needs to be cleaned. I also need to play some Sims 3

2) Beatles: Overrated or Musical Geniuses? They were way before my time. I like some of their stuff. I remember my dad crying when Lennon was killed. Both my parents were hippes and "Imagine" was played a lot in the house.

3) Name something positive that happened to you this week. Err. Uhhh. I might have to come back to this one. I honestly can't think of anything positive.

4) Do you like your job? For the most part. Honestly I deserve to make more money for the responsibilty I have and amount of work I have. I don't want to change jobs right now though. Feels risky.

1) Weekend plans?

I went to the movies today and saw whip it. It's directed by Drew Barrymore and stars that young gal that was in Juno, Ellen Page. It was good! I also have a friend in town who I don't get so see much. I will hang out with her this evening.

2) Beatles:

I am on the fence with this one. There are some of their songs I just love. I guess I think they are really good, but I don't know that there is anyone who I consider to be a musical genius.

3) Name something positive that happened to you this week.

I hardly get to see my little 3 month old granddaughter. I got to take care of her this week and she took a bottle for me. She is breastfed and her mommy is really having trouble because she refuses to take a bottle. My daughter was like that. I know how frustrating it is for a new mommy to be the only person who can feed the baby!

4) Do you like your job? For the most part, I do like my job. I like it a lot more now that I am hardly working.

I am going to be 57 this month and I am just sick of working, since I have been working since I was 16. I am fortunate in other ways that I can afford to only work part time now.

1) Weekend plans? Cleaning, laundry, geocaching, watching the race and hanging out with the family.

2) Beatles: Overrated or Musical Geniuses? I think they were very good, but I wouldn't necessarily call them musical geniuses.

3) Name something positive that happened to you this week. I found a best friend from high school that I had lost track of for many years. You have to love Facebook for that!

4) Do you like your job? I love my job, I love what we do and why we are doing it. But, there are some people that I would love to see leave and then it would be the perfect job.

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
