Have hit the brick wall

Recommended Posts

Hi, all. Well I am at the 3-4 week stall. The scale hasn't moved in 7 days. It weighs to the ounce and it hasn't moved up or down even one ounce. I had my husband come and stand on it just to see if it was "stuck". lol

So, glad to read so many others report this otherwise I would be VERY discouraged. Also, forgive me for TMI but I've only been to the bathroom once in the last 10 days. I've taken Miralax for 3 days now and I'm getting in about 70 oz of Water. Anyone else having this trouble?

As for food, eggs won't go down but egg beaters do. I've tried to eat some type of fish 3 times and have thrown up each time. I thought that was suppose to be one of the easy foods. ???

Oh, I feel like you were in MY bathroom between weeks 4 and 6! And as far as the, uh humm, bathroom issue, I'm right there with you. If I'm lucky, I'll go once every 5-6 days, even with Miralax every day. So, I guess it's pretty normal. Hang in there, the scale will move, I promise! I was at a stall for almost 3 weeks before I started losing again. Everyone stalls around that time. Keep the chin up!

Nana, I know exactly what you mean in regard to the bathroom issue and the stall. I feel like jumping for joy when my bowels finally move! When I eat solids, I include greens as much as possible and add benefiber to my shakes. My Water intake is always over 64 oz too. And, those gall darn stalls.......I stayed the same one whole week, but the next dropped 5 lbs. I think Constipation could be part of it too. I have been lucky and never vomited anything. If I eat too fast or a new food my stomach doesn't want, it goes right through me. But, I can tolerate all foods so far, nothing makes me throw up.

I am out 4 weeks yesterday and I have been in a stall for around a week. I knew this would happen because everyone on the boards said it would, so I was kinda expecting it. But one good thing is that I can eat more Proteins like sliced ham, a small hamburger patty moist, beef Jerkey, 1 small chicken finger, and tuna. I am still getting in my 2 mile walk everyday, and I have just started to play tennis again. I am hoping for the lbs to drop on the scale soon.

I am clears but my last "movement" was September 5th. I am going to take some MOM tonight and see what happens. I can't imagine eating real food and going that long.

Hi Ladies,

This is normal--the scales sitting in the same place for awhile--we have all experienced it. Sometimes a different exercise will help too--like walking or swimming. Try a little more than what you have been taking of the Miralax. Each body is different. I know it took quite a bit of the Miralax for me to make it work on a daily basis. I know that walking also has helped me. I have been at this for 11 months now. Lots of times fruit juice will work with the Miralax in it too. Prunes--has anyone tried prunes? We all hit periods where the scale isn't moving and that is OK, because we haven't gained any weight either. I know it isn't fun, but keep trying.

Sometimes, I am tempted to drink coffee to get things moving down there. My old trick of ice Water on an empty stomach doesn't work anymore. I used to be the person that went 3xs a day, cause I ate so much Fiber. Nothing works anymore, not benefiber, greens, and MoM gives me the runs so bad, I can't go anywhere for 2 days. *sigh* I really am full of s***, literally. ;-)

Well, I started back to Curves this past Friday then went again Mon. and yesterday. The scale moved 3 pounds! I guess changing up the exercise did work. As far as the other issue, still not luck. I had to be at a seminar the past few days and I was afraid to take the Miralx or MOM for fear it would work too well. I'm sure it will all work its self out. (pun intended) lol

Glad I'm not the only one.

Woo hoo!! 3 lbs is awesome! I am thinking of doing circuit training too. You get cardio & strength training all in one. I have heard that is the best.

I talked to Dr. Campos about the BM issue as I would go so infrequently, that I'd forget when the last time I did was -- he said that is quite normal in that we are not putting that much into our system to "push" it on out -- if that makes sense -- I do know if I eat prunes or eat a salad, I will go that evening or the next day ... I know that now that I am on more solid food, I do go more often than when on liquids and mushies; however, if I don't eat a salad or prunes, then I don't go everyday -- I don't stress about it because I don't feel bloated or constipated - there's no "urge" to go -- and I was never one to go on a daily basis before WLS surgery, so I don't worry too much about it -- I certainly don't want to take any supplements to help things along as they seem to adversely affect me. Before WLS, I was taking Magnesium and that really seemed to keep me regular. Keep in mind, too, when you're on liquids, it's going to be liquids in, liquids out -- not much changes when you move to mushies ... you should notice more changes when you move to solid foods.

I was constipated really bad while I was visiting Lebanon. The pharmacist there gave me glycerin suppositories. Worked like a charm! I had e-mailed Dr. Aceves' office and they said very thin Benefiber and plenty of liquids should keep things moving.

Benefiber gives me terrible gas. It seems like everything gives me gas.

I seem to "go" okay though. I am having a better time with this issue than I did with the band.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
