You also have to remember that you aren't eating as much so there isn't as much to push things through (in my surgeon's words) and so it is not unnormal at all to go several days without a BM. Plus at the liquid stage, liquids in, liquids out. This may be TMI; however, I am almost 3 months out and I do not have a BM every day - sometimes it is every 3 days. I am do not have the constipated feeling and so, after speaking with my surgeon, I don't worry about it. As long as I am getting in enough fluids, eventually there will be enough whatever to make a BM.

I will chime in on the TMI. I am 8 days out and have only had 2 movements, if you could call them that. I am still passing gas and my husband can hear sounds so I am not worried. I don't feel bloated.

I feel for you with liquids. It is hard. I wish I would have done this during the winter when it was a constant 70 out.

I am three days out and really having problems getting in enough liquids. Everything taste to sweet (crystal lite), regular Water tastes bad also. Jello feels like it is not goingg down right. So very afraid of getting dehydrated.

Any suggestions.:scared0:

Have you tried to Water down the crystal light? I watered it down 3:1 or it is too sweet for me too. Make sure your Jello bites are really small and liquid when you swallow them. Don't worry the going down wrong part gets better with time.

I am 9 days out and just got to 35 oz a day. I am dehydrated I can tell by my urine. Just keep sipping. That is what I do.

Oh and popcicles, lots of SF popcicles really do help.

Thanks for the advise. I know it will get better but it's frusrating right now. My hubby is freaking out because I can't get 60 oz of fluids in. I'm right below the 48 oz mark everyday. Suppose to start Protein today but it wasn't going down good. Will try again at noon but now I'm behind on my other fluids. So frusrating (sp)

I honestly think 48 oz is great for right now. It seems if you stress yourself it just goes down worse. As long as you are peeing a mid to light yello and not dizzy you are doing good. Just keep at it.

As long as you can do more each day, you should be fine.

Don't forget that broth and sf popsicles count as liquids too. There are lots of things you can consume to up your liquid count.

You also might try room temperature Water. Sometimes warm things go down better than cold at first.

. And, yes, Constipation issue on Monday. Picture a bowling ball going through a garden hose. That is how I felt. Damn near blew a vein in my neck on that deuce. But more Water was the answer. Good luck.

Bob, we can always count on you for a laugh concerning our bodily functions. I lol and then read to my husband. He just shakes your head.

I agree about trying warmer liquids. I still cannot do cold liquids. I get discomfort/spasms when I drink cold liquids. I can only tolerate 1 ice cube if any in a 16 oz glass and I am 4 months post surgery.

Keep trying different things. You will find what works for you.

I am the same way. I eat out a lot. They always look at me like I am crazy when I say Water no ice please. I drink a lot of water, but it's always room temp.

Sorry I haven't updated, work has been murder!

I ended up dropping everything I was doing, no Miralax, no colace, and just kept at drinking my liquids every day. Everything is fine now, I think that the stuff I was taking for my digestion issues (miralax and colace) were dehydrating me further and the heat and ash had already taken it out of me. Finally, I think the NyQuil I took was the straw that broke my dehydrated body's back.

As I said, all is well now, the ash is blowing somewhere else and the heat has abated. I see my doc next week for my 2 month checkup!

Glad to hear it, Steve. One day at a time. So glad the fire is no longer in our area, either. Hope they can get it all the way out very soon.

Yeah, it is 65% (or so) contained and headed out towards the desert. It was wild the last couple of weeks, though, with ash raining on our cars and the blood-orange sky.

On a side note, a coworker brought coffee and doughnuts to work today. I thought, oh, I will just take a little of each. Boy was that the wrong move. Remember kids: coffee and doughnuts do not work well with micro-tummies!

I really need some help with drinking Water. I carry around a bottle with me all day, and I feel like i am sipping constantly, but I cannot even get to 32 oz a day. I am now 1 month out and feeling the dehydration badly. I don't know what to do. especially now that i am eating real food and can't drink for 1/2 before and after i eat, it is becoming harder to get in the water. . . ideas?

It just has to be fluids, not especially Water. Find something you enjoy drinking, and drink that. I drink diet Green Tea because I like the taste. It comes in 16 oz. bottles so once I've had 4 of those I'm at 64 ozs.

I drink up until dinner or meal time, and I drink afterward. Nothing has caused me a problem with this. I realize that's not recommended, but it's what I do.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
