Sorry, didn't mean to offend. I just haven't heard that not having a pre-op diet is more harmful or hurtful to the patients. Would love to see studies or facts if you have them. I say the doctor's comfort level meaning confidence level - sorry if I used the wrong verbaige) because that is my understanding some doctors prefer it because they find it easier to operate. My doctor says their is not a significant difference to warrent it. That's all I was trying to say.

You didn't offend. Fact is, I was concerned that I might be offending. It is Dr. Rodriguez that is my source, but I've read from him that it is not only his experience but studies that have determined that people who do a pre-op diet do better. After I made my post, I checked with Barbara, his patient advocate. She qualified what I had said. The diet helps reduce the liver. That makes the surgery less traumatic and, therefore, the recovery less difficult. American doctors have less experience in doing the band and, in my humble oppinion, in most cases, less time to consider such things as they roller skate from one patient to the next. I'm just concerned that it could be easier for someone to recover and they might not get that advantage.

Thank You Everyone!!! I spoke to a few others of Dr Carter's Patients. They all were fine without the Pre-Op diet. I do understand why people are put on the diet though. I have lost 6 lbs since signing up for the surgery...but that is just do to nerves!!!! I usually call my weight at the Dr's office; yesterday I was wrong...but pleasantly surprised!!!

I love the staff at the Carter Lap Band Center and at USMD in Arlington. They did put my mind at ease about having my first surgery. Now I can't wait to be Banded and start my own adventure. Now all I am doing is waiting for Tuesday morning at 5:45pm. I am the first patient of the day. Surgery starts at 7:15am. :tape:

I live in Quinlan, which is south of Royse City/Greenville, north of Terrell, and 1 hour east of Dallas.

I was banded by Dr. Benavides in Richardson on Valentine's Day. I did 2 wks of a modified liquid diet, and lost about 5 lbs (wasn't very religious about it, because I was starving), but he was pleased with it.

Hello,

My name is Dieta and I live in The Colony, outside of Frisco, near Plano.

Welcome to the forum, Dieta. Okay, I'm sorry, but I've got to say something. Is that your real name? I mean, with a name like that, how could you go wrong? Okay, I said it.

Are you already banded? Planning to? By whom? When?

I think there's a group meeting in Plano, but you're certainly invited to join our new group in Denton. We'll be meeting from 6:30-8:30 Thursday, March 1, at Jason's Deli at I-35e and Loop 288 (northeast corner shopping center, across from the mall).

Good luck.

Richard

Hi Richard,

Thank you and yes, my name is really Dieta. It was my grandmothers name and really does, get ready to laugh, mean "diet" in spanish. Yes, its true. But now I am not dieting anymore, just banded on August 23, 2007, I think sad thing is I can't remember the actual date now, close to the 23rd though. I guess I am so used to my band I don't think about my band date now. Thank you for inviting me to the meeting. I will see if I can attend.

Dieta, The Plano group has been posting on DFW Bandsters, a Yahoo group. I knew I had seen them somewhere.

Peace,

Richard

Hi all,

I am a newbie here. Not banded yet, first appt is March 1st with Dr. Wade Barker. I have BCBS and he is in-network. I live in Prosper, and was going to go to Dr. Cribbins, but he is aconsidered out of network. I figured that if BCBS is going to pay, why should I choose out of netowrk and incurr the added expense anyway, has anyone used Dr. Barker?

Thanks for any and all info. Melissa

P.S. Congrats to all of you for your successes.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
