Hello I am a new member....

I had a band done about 5 yrs ago and just had to have it removed this past March

 My Doc wanted to do the sleeve BUT of course the Ins co I have now did not cover it so here I am thinking about doing the weight gain and not feeling good about myself once again. I did lose about 160 lbs with the band over the 1st 3 yrs and maintained with very little Fluid. The problem I had was severe acid reflux and coughing all night as soon as I laid down. I would start getting sick and throw up the bile in my stomach.... so he said enough is enough. I was on a pill that helped with it all but just not a good thing to be on long term I guess. I think I may be having surgery the end of this month. Just wondering if anyone out their has had the band to sleeve and at what rate did you start losing agin. Thanks

Hi Nana, and welcome to the forums. I hope you don't mind that I moved your post.

There are a bunch of us here that have revised from the band to the sleeve, myself included. My weight loss has been fabulous, as you can see by my ticker. I wish I had known about the sleeve three years ago, I never would have gotten the band. And not having to worry about fills, being too tight, pb'ing while out with friends, etc. is wonderful. You literally get your life back!

I also had my band taken out last March and had the revision on June 12th. I am 7 weeks out and have lost about 25 lbs. I love the sleeve in lieu of the band. Much better for my life style.

Thanks for the info. I am so looking forward to surgery. Hard to believe on can gain weight that fast. My band was not even filled but was doing a great job until I had to have it removed. I went from a size 6 to 12/14 in just a few months. Just can't wait for things to be back to normal. Are you put on the same liquid diet for the month again? Or since you were banded going to the sleeve is the process different.

Can anyone tell me if they have had surgery done in Tijuana, Mexico with the Bariatric group with Dr. Lopez. Thanks

Everything I've read about the doctors in Tijuana has not been very good at all -- and the drug wars there are very pronounced.

Have you considered Dr. Aceves is Mexicali? and NO I'm not a paid promoter -- I just know his stats and I felt completely safe while in Mexicali -- heck, I even drove myself around and went to the local Super Wal-Mart while Bearded was in the hospital ... I would recommend Dr. Aceves 100% as I am sure many others on this site would as well.

If you opt to go to Tijuana, just be sure to do all the research you can and check out the surgeon before scheduling your surgery - their leak stats, number of sleeves performed, the size of the boughie they use, etc. BE WELL INFORMED!

Hi Nana! I don't know if you remember me from LBT, but I was banded 1/03 and de-banded 7/04 due to erosion. I gained back all my weight, and am being sleeved by Dr Aceves next week. Dr. Lopez did my band - both install and removal, as well as my port revision.

I can't wait to have my sleeve!

I am willing to be that if a poll were taken, the majority of us have had their surgery

done by Dr. Aceves. His credentials are excellent.

Well here I am "sleeved"... I went to Mexicali on Thursday Aug 20 and surgery was done on the 21st...... Looking for to a new person again. The whole experience at the hospital is great. The staff is wonderful and Drs are very good and keep you well informed. I would tell all to go to Mexicali and have it done. BUT the only ones that know I went to have surgery are my husband and daughters...lol... Just kinda private that way. BUT if people do what to know info about the sleeve I can tell them. I am just not putting the info out for the friends. I am sure things will go just find for me. As I a was a bander turned sleever.... So far everything is just fine for me. I got home early tue AM... worked for 4 hrs in the afternoon ( I work from home) so I did not have to look pretty for the office...... I just keep on drinking my juice and "eating" my broth. I will be in touch will the wls milestones.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
