Pre-op diet day 3

Recommended Posts

hi big nana

you are my sleeve sister!! i was also sleeved on 19th august. i have lost 10kg as of today which is 3 weeks out exactly. i lost 6 kg in the first week then just 1kg the next week (disappointing) then 3kg this week...i have heard from many people that week 3 or 4 is a bit of a standstill time then you lose larger sums the following week. i honestly think your body goes into shock from the large quantities you used to consume to the tiny amounts you consume now so it basically goes into starvation mode thinking you are withholding food so it holds onto fat to sustain it.

i actually am able to eat about 1 cup of food. i eat low fat yoghurt, smoothies, bolognaise sauce with more sauce and less mince at this stage, beef and vegetable Soup put through the blender. maybe you are not eating enough??? are you feeling really full after the few bites??? i had a scrambled egg on the weekend but it didnt sit well with me so i will re introduce it in a couple of weeks.

dont worry i am sure the scales will move again. keep us posted. congrats on your 16lb weight loss so far though.

Hi, all! Well 3 weeks post-op now and down 34 lbs (since pre-op) !Someone at work finally noticed I had lost some weight. You have to love the comment..."You can really tell in your face". Like was my head the size of a watermelon? lol

I haven't told anyone at work either, Vegas. That's been kind of hard because I eat lunch with the same person everyday. I can only take 3 bites of something then comes the burping. That's been horrible.

I've only told 3 people other than my husband and kids. I didn't want people watching every bite of food i put in my mouth and whispering behind my back about how big my behind still is. :biggrin0:

Vegas, I saw your going on a cruise. Have a great time!!!

Hi Nanna!! It's a small world, I also live in Goddlettsville TN. I am 8 days out from surgery. I have lost a lil over 20 lbs now. I was totally opposite, i told everybody i was having surgery. I want to maybe encourage others who are afraid of having surgery. Maybe if they see i pulled through and do well they'll give it a try. I go back to work tomorrow and as you said, i do feel like everybody is going to watch every move i make and everything i put in my mouth. And I agree with you, the burping is terrible. I have never felt such a rumble in my tummy before a burp than i do now..lol. Well, take care and maybe I'll see you around!!:thumbup1:

Hi Donna!

I'm glad to hear that the 3rd or 4th week is kind of slowing down point for some...you can't get any info on the internet about this and calling my doctor is a joke. He would just tell me to go and see me so I can drive for 2 hours to get there, and be with him for 2 minutes for him to tell me everything is ok. That's why this forum is so helpful. I think too you're right about the starvation mode thing, that makes perfect sense, your body is trying to hold on to any measly calorie they can find. I can eat just about anything...I am still on soft foods but have expanded my choices a bit....just about anything that looks soft, I will try, the only thing so far that didn't settle was some potatoes, I think they were too greasy (hash browns) so I won't be doing that again at least for a while. Yesterday I had a few bites of salmon with some blue cheese, I felt fine and it was delicious! I also eat cottage cheese and a few tbl spoons of refried Beans with some cheese goes down great also. I did finally lose one whole pound...but I told myself not to weigh every day (hard not to do that), my body just has to get used to eating small amounts, go up and down with the weight until I guess it will just start coming off at a more steady pace. So how much have you lost since the surgery? You were throwing me off with the kg thing, I only know pounds...sorry!!!

Anyway, all my incisions look great, I peeled off the last of the brush on adhesive last night and they are barely visible. A little Vitamin E every day should do the trick to erasing them completely. I feel really good otherwise, no side effects at all, to me this was definetely the way to go over gastric bypass, that just seemed so drastic and complicated to me. it just makes me feel better to know that my insides have not been altered, only a piece of stomach taken out so I can still eat whatever i want, just in tiny portions.

Thanks for answering me, I feel better now.....

Also how many times a day do you eat? I eat 2-3 times a day, then just liquid the rest of the time. I'm getting my Protein down (HUGE fear of losing my hair), about 80-100 grams a day, but the Water part is killing me. It is so hard for me to push that much water. I never have been a big water drinker and I'm just not a thirsty person. I'm lucky to get 30 oz a day in....How about you? I am noticing tho that my skin and hair is getting a little dryer so I'm really trying harder...........

Thanks for your help!

Big Nana

Hey Nana, glad to hear that you are doing well. I have a really, really tough time with the Water too. I have never been big on it. Before the sleeve, I could do it with Crystal Light, but now, that tastes too sweet. I just really have to make a conscious effort to keep a bottle in front of me at all times. I also set a reminder on my iPhone at noon and 6:00 p.m. to pop up every day as a means of keeping a check on myself to make sure I am getting enough in.

I figured out I can't drink anything with aspartame (crystal lite, the special K Protein waters, and so forth). It tastes too "sweet" and leaves an after taste now. So, I decided to pick up some decaffeinated Lipton tea bags. I brew it, and make unsweet ice tea. I add Splenda because it's the only artificial sweetener I can tolerate at this point. It's helped me get closer to hitting the 64oz Fluid mark.

I have a hard time with Water to, i have never liked it. I am never hungry but sometimes i just want to taste something. I am on liquid/ soft pureed food still. I love V8, and refried Beans are worth their weight in gold. I got a can of potted meat today, kinda higher than i want in calories but it has high in Protein until i can eat real food.

hi big nana

i am very similar to you in that i only eat 3 times a day and find it hard to get the Water down. like you i have never been a huge water drinker. i have lost 10kg which is approximately 16lb i think.

glad to hear your incisions are healing nicely.

my biggest fear is also losing my hair so i am making sure i have Protein everytime i eat.

i made beef stirfry for my family last night and i took the plunge and gave myself a small serve of beef strips and veges and cut them up into miniscule pieces. the sauce was really yummy and i left the rice off the plate of course but it went down well and it took about 30 minutes to eat because i chewed that meat till it was total mush.

it was good to eat with my family again and not a separate meal. i usually eat about 6 cups of boiled rice with my stir fry and eat it all out of a salad bowl followed by about 3 cans of diet coke so this was a far cry from that but i enjoyed it and i was definitely full afterwards. i am still getting used to that really full feeling after such a small portion.

i saw my dietition yesterday who advised me to stop eating when i was no longer hungry rather than when i felt full as i would still be able to stretch my stomach if i kept eating until i was full. if i did that i told her i would be eating about 4 teaspoons a day. anyway i will try and do that next meal. she also told me not to drink during my meal and to stop drinking 15mins before i ate and 30mins after.

so just some info for you all to take on board. i actually thought the drinking during eating would help me get stuff down easier??? but hey what do i know???

Hi, Glenna. Wow it really is a small world. Where in Goodlettsville do you live? Technically we live in Millersville but since there is no post office we have a Goodlettsville address. Who did your surgery? I went to Dr. Dyer at Centennial.

The stall in the weight loss is normal - everyone seems to hit it about week 3 or 4 -- don't worry - you'll start losing again. As for the Water thing - I still have trouble at times getting it all in so I suck on ice cubes all the time - SF popsicles are good to get fluids into you too. Just experiment with what works for you and you'll figure out a good regiment and be getting in all your liquids before you know it.

I'm starving! It seemed ok until this afternoon. I had to run into the mall to pick up a gift and the smell of Aunt Annie's pretzels was almost more than I could stand. :svengo:I don't really even like pretzels. OK, just had to whine. Thanks for listening.

Hahaha, hey I don't feel so bad now. I whine so much my sister asked if I wanted some cheese with my whine! I am booked to get mine mon. the 28th. This has been a rough 2 wks. What saved me was when I ate some cottage cheese (low fat). Doc said it was ok. It made my stomache ache go away! I sprinkled bacon salt on it and it saved me from disaster. You are gonna make it just read the forums, they encourage you!:001_smile:

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
