Do we always have to talk about the sleeve?

Recommended Posts

I hate to do make up too. Maybe 10 years ago a friend of mine told me about Medical Pigmentation. It is like "tatoos". I had my brows done and top and bottom eye liner. The lady that did it works for a burn center and does unbelievable reconstruction. She has all kinds of credentals. It lasts for probably 3 years and then fades to the point I go back and have a touch up. It was a life/time saver when I was working. So I put on some lip stick and away I go. If dressing up I do Bare Minerals foundation and I am good to go. I love it. carol

Well Vegas, if your hair is coming in curly after the sleeve maybe mine will come back in straight. I was born with very curly hair. I blowdry then take a hot curling Iron to try and stretch it out. If I don't do this everyday it looks like I have an afro. When I'm home by myself I just let it be curly. Judy

What do you consider a long time? I timed myself this morning - 8 minutes from beginning to end - including eyeliner and mascara and lipstick ... is that too long?

So what about removal of this eye makeup? I like the idea of not having to remove the bare minerals before going to sleep. I am beyond lazy. I have put eye liner on (like I said, I will put make up on for special occasions) and I wake up looking like a raccoon.

This is going to be fun. It almost feels to me like little girls playing dress up!

Carol, you are in Phoenix? I go to Mesa all the time. My dad has a house there and I will be coming in oct to get it ready. I am going to rent it to snowbirds as my dad passed away in June.

Permanent eye make up sounds like the way to go! How expensive is it to do eye liner?

Where do you live in Phoenix?

I am interested in that too -- I would love to have permanent eye liner and brows -- I have brows; however, they have gotten so light if I don't use brow color, you can't tell I have them ... how much is it? Does it hurt?

I use a babywipe to take off the eye liner/mascara most of the time -- if I forget before going to bed, then I do it when I get up in the morning.

I've been told that the reason one's hair beguns to turn grey is because their body quits producing copper ... and copper is not a supplment you can take so once your body is done, you begin to turn grey. I have grey - not a lot, but enough to make me color my hair!

Oh the surgery has nothing to do with the curliness -- it was doing this months before I had the surgery -- Melissa has been doing my hair for a couple of years that's why she notices it so much.

It's not the time for me. I don't like how makeup feels on my skin or that you have to replenish it. Also, I don't feel like I really need it. Maybe that's because I'm a software engineer so I work with my fellow geeks and nerds.

That's what is so great about Bare Minerals -- you can't even tell you've got it on and it doesn't dry out your skin at all -- it's all natural. I could never wear foundation before because by the time I got the liquid stuff spread out on my face I felt like my pores were "suffocating" and would break all out in a sweat and it would "melt" off -- so before Bare Minerals I never wore foundation. This stuff actually makes your skin feel very silky smooth. It's great stuff. Not trying to influence you one way or the other Mac, just letting you know how great it is ... if I looked okay without make-up, I wouldn't worry about it on a daily basis either -- however, I'm blotchy without it and if I don't put on eyeliner, brow liner and mascara, my eyes look little and beady ...

Daisy, actually I live in Tempe just to the east of Phx. Everyone knows Phx so I just started doing everything "carolnphx". When you come over here to work on your Dad's house you will have to stop by. I am maybe 2 miles off US 60 maybe 5 minutes from the airport. We will go do lunch or whatever. That would be super. Sounds like a plan. I'd love to meet you.

I can't remember what the initial cost was for the medical pigmentation. Seems like I paid around $500 for eye liners and brow. Is $100, I think, for touch-up. Then when I stand looking at myself in the mirror and I want to add a pencil to brow or whatever I know is time to get touch-up. It is time now. I have been thinking of getting an appointmnet so maybe this will push me into making the call. When I call I will ask for current pricing and report back. Sounds kinda spendy but it lasts for a very long time.

My friend does her lips too. I couldn't do that because when I am stressed I get cold sores on my lips and tech said that it would not be a constant color because of scaring left from my cold sores. Oh well, can't have everything, I guess. ha

She puts numbing salve on areas before but still hurts but not bad. Is like blood draw pain maybe. When I was working I did on Friday and was fine by Monday to go to work. I just had to put Neosporin on the areas then several times a day. Is something I will not be without.

Is definitely worth the $$ and the discomfort of getting it done. Her salon is in Mesa on corner of Baseline and Mesa Drive.

Let us know Carol -- never been to Phoenix or Mesa so might be worth the trip -- and $1000 over 3 years isn't all that bad when you think about it ...

I will schedule an appointment and ask prices and let you know.

Like I said in the earlier post she works with burn patients. One time at a touch-up she called and canceled my appointment. When I went to my re-scheduled appontment she said this surgeon called her for emergency pigmentation for a burn patient. She put areolas on this ladies "new breasts". As the surgeon took skin/tissue from wherever she gave her areolas. That story put me over the top. Just think how that made that lady feel. Made me cry.

Alright, here's my two cents on this conversation... as a somewhat former makeup junkie.

I love wearing make up. Makes me feel good. In my twenties, I bought and used everything. Couldn't leave the house without it. Now, as I am approaching 40, I am finding that less is more.

To explain, I found an incredible women in Dallas that gives amazing organic facials. She switched my cleanser and "stuff" to an organic brand (mind you, I am not often on the organic bandwagon) and changed my makeup to a minerals type (Jane Iredale - kind of like Bareminerals). I find that I like my complexion now much more, and tend to wear just a little make-up. It's all I need. I have to swear by her facials and products. The icing on the cake is the eyelash extensions. I never liked mascara, always ended up with smudges on my lower lids/cheeks by mid-day regardless of which brand I used. She uses real hair for the extensions and they FEEL real. I will never wear mascara again.

Carol, my dad's house is McKellips and Higley. Now that they put the 202 in, it makes it faster to get everywhere.

I would love to meet you too. I go on the 60 all the time. I love AZ Mills. I love all the malls. I live in the middle of nowhere, so it's really fun for me to go there and have real stores to go to.

I've met a few people from lap band talk and it's been really nice for me to actually know people cause I do go there pretty often. I'll come this fall and next summer for sure. I love to tube down the salt river. it's a blast!

I've been flying into the Mesa Gateway airport these last few times. It's so much more convenient.

No one ever hits on me, fat or thin. :smile1:

Well now it is just because they can't catch you! Or they are intimidated by your buff arms.

I am late as usual to the blab fest.......

I wear makeup sometimes. I go in spurts. If I wear foundation it is Cover Girl Clean or Cover Girl Aqua Smoothers if it is dry outside. I am too lazy to wash it off at night and don't break out (thanks to Yaz B.C. Pills). I have used Cover Girl Foundation since I was a teenager and love the noxema type smell.

I wear eye shadow on special occasions or for meetings at work. I wear mascara and eyeliner a lot. I am blonde but tend to wear black mascara and plum liner. There is some new mascara for eye colors out and I love it. Subtle blush if I can be bothered. Lipstick when I remember. I hate the feeling on my lips.

My hair is so straight it is irritating. Only my bangs will curl. I usually pull it up during the summer because it is too hot. during the winter it is down in a subtle feather thing. Dunno. I hate my hair.< /p>

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
