A New Home - Sleeve People!

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

We finally have a place devoted to people thinking about getting the sleeve, revising to the sleeve, making the sleeve their first weight loss surgery, and post-op VSG members. This board is set-up similar to the lapbandtalk board so navigating it shouldn't be too difficult for those who posted there. I look forward to interacting and sharing.

happy to see the move.....my removal of lap band would scare anyone. I know the OB has a nurse in his office with one.....and she freaked out cause she knew other than the puking while pregnant I never did anything wrong (accept occassionally trying to see if I could eat a pickle.....same results NO)

One time on the other site I referred to the sleeve sisters as a family and I must say that you are all becoming much more like that than ever before. VegasAngel said the forum has been become her exchange addiction. I am one of the sleevers (going to be next week) that has chosen not to tell family or co workers about this surgery. I find myself wanting to talk about something so badly especially since it is such a big thing in my life and here is the only place I can talk about it. Its not often when I feel like I need such a voice and then to have things that I do say to be appreciated and found to be of value. Kudos to all of us and thank you for being here for me and the others like me.

I told just two people I was getting banded and then told those same two that I was revising to the sleeve. Nobody else knows and I like it that way. I'm losing weight for me and don't want to answer to anyone but me.

You know, I completely relate to what you are referring to. When I was originally banded I didn't tell anyone but I wanted so much to talk about it. By the time I was sleeved everyone knew and it wasn't as big of a deal.

You do tend to grow close to people on message boards, they are the only people who understand.

Rosebud2 lives in Las Vegas, and we've talked on the phone and email. Ruthi and I will be going together and Efuyera will be there - her surgery is on the 10th -- so it will be nice to meet some of my "sisters" face-to-face. I am THRILLED to have found the VSG forum on LBT and to now have our own site ... I have gleaned so much information and have, hopefully helped others ... regardless, it's nice to be able to be free to talk about it ... the only one who knows is Bob, my fiance, and my nurse friend, Lisa, who is so busy working and when not working in the Peds ICU spends time at the hospital with her father who is dying from cancer ... other than that NO ONE knows and I don't intend to tell anyone.

So thanks to ALL of YOU!

I love having our own board. It's been really hard because I enjoy the chat room at LBT. It will be good when the chat room opens up and we can really talk to each other.

I have gotten to know so many people in the chat room who think I was nuts to have part of my stomach removed. I want to tell them so badly to just wait til they start puking and going for fills and unfills and then tell me how much they love their band. I didn't even have that many problems with the band and I hated it after awhile. It's ridiculous that one day you can eat a certain food, and the next time you try it, you puke it up.

I want to tell them about the sleeve too. Not because I think *everyone* should get it but because I'm sure 90% of them only know about the band and bypass and so they are not really making an informed decision.

I have only told two people, one of them is my sister who is very level headed and will be able to give medical info in case I have some sort of emergency where I am unable to speak for myself. I worked three months in the frozen cold of an Indiana winter to pay for this surgery and I did this for myself. I don't need anybody's judgement or monitoring. I certainly did not tell my co workers; that would be the equivalent of calling up CNN and telling them.

Curious Serious -- where in Indiana?

As to the calling up CNN being equal to telling co-workers ... I'm right there with you!

Lafayette, Indiana. Great hospital and staff, by the way!

Definitely colder up that way ... I lived just south of Indianpolis for 27 years and saw my share of cold Indiana winters ... have to say I don't miss them at all. My nephew will graduate from Purdue this year.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
