Hi Darcy,

I recently bought some powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury unflavored Protein, and am really impressed with it. It doesn't add any flavor at all to things and doesn't have that nasty smell that some Protein shakes do. I've only tried it with juice, but their website says you can mix it with all kinds of different things. I'm going to try one of their flavored versions next.

Thanks Becky,

I went online lastnight and there is a gajillion different brands and types of whey Protein. I did order a vanilla blend from allthewhey.com. It was reasonably priced so I thought I would give it a try. I'll tell ya... if I have to drink this stuff for a month then I want it to taste good! Let me know when you try a flavored mix...

Darcy,

unjury chocolate is really good...Angel likes some stuff from GNC but I wasn't as impressed...I haven't tried the Unjury unflavored but am going to tonight...I'm pretty tight...I'll let you know.

Okay... I'll let you give it a sip first Jen :) I did put the unjury site into my favorites and will order and compare it with the other powder I ordered. I would like to find something I like before I have the surgery to have on hand.

Also... do you find the office staff at Cr. Chua's to be friendly? After calling there today... I certainly wasn't greeted nicely and it didn't get any better after that. Maybe she was just having a bad day but it just left me worrying about how smoothly this whole process will go. It's tough enough to go to a strange city and be unfamiliar with the medical personel as well as the facilities... add an unfriendly staff and I might just have to sit down and have a good cry. I guess I'll just hope for a better experience next time and that you'll tell me you had good experiences there.

Thanx... Darcy

Darcy,

I wouldn't say they are unfriendly...brief...yes...that is the best word...I think they are so busy sometimes they come off as being unfriendly...

I can honestly say I felt the same way pre-surgery...everything went very well...the preop testing went smooth...the history and physical...the surgery...and now the fills...try not to let it get you down...like I said I've felt the same way...

I didn't try the unflavored yet...I'll let you know when I do...

Thanx again Jen,

I know that I am a little hyper-sensative right now due to the nicotine withdrawals... it's good to know that you have had good experiences. I think people underestimate the power of a poor greeting and a poorly worded reply... things can be brief and friendly. Still, am relieved to hear your take on the matter. I am just anxious to get on with things and am definitely NOT good at the waiting game. Patience is a virtue but not one that I am blessed with. :)

Wishes to you for a happy day...

Revival Soy is a great tasting---high Protein meal supplement. (available in sugar free) The Protein comes from soy. I have tasted almost all of thier products. I have found the following:

In the drinks, the cappicino (sugar-free) is the best flavor. Overall the powder does not shake well, but if you use the hand blender, then it is better.

The bars: the chocolate raspberry fizz bar is AWSOME!! Great chocolate flavor, crispy and sugar free (doesn't taste it!)

The soy chips are flavorful, and taste a bit like corn nuts. They are about 110 calories per bag and for those that like crunchy, salty things---they are very good.

Check it out and if you e-mail me and I recommend you to them, we both get a free sample of products.

btw---price is so-so. You have to purchase in bulk.

Thanks Gretat,

I'll let you know if I am interested in ordering... I am not sure I want to buy in bulk as I hope that I don't have to continue the Protein shakes after the initial post-op page. My sister belongs to a group and they order a lot of Soy protucts in bulk so I would probably go that route to save a bit of moolah. (o: Thanx for thi info... tis much appreciated!

Hi Leannie,

Wow... that made me hungry just reading your post! Have you had it minus the PButter and bananas and mixed with just Water or ice? I really want to keep the calories down during the

post-op period so that I can have a jumpstart loss if at all possible. Thanks so much for the information...

Since being banded I have been supplementing my Protein intake with EAS "AdvantEdge" Carb Control shakes....the only one I like is the strawberry cream, the vanilla I dont care for, my husband likes the chocolate....you can get them in most department/grocery stores, but Walmart I find is the cheepest. They have 110 calories, 15 grams of Protein, 0 net carbs, and less than 1 gram of sugar....I drink one in the car on the way to work, and one in the evening when I get home. I like them especially on the days when I am tight....I can always get these down. When we pack a cooler to go somewhere.....I pack those and some flavored water! Good Luck!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
