Hi,

Just came back from having an upper GI done. The unofficial diagnosis is a partially slipped band. I could see my partial stomach over the band itself. The technician told me that it didn't look urgent (he had seen much worse) and that I would have to call to be seen. He thought I would just probably need an unfill but couldn't say since he's only technician & doesn't have first hand experience with bariatric, only with doing upper GI's.

Have a call into m Dr's office. Obviously they can't do anything until they see the results this afternoon. I had my lapband surgery Aug 2013 and have lost 95 pds. I'm now 150 pds & 5'3. Definitely happy where I'm at right now

Anyone else have experience with this?

thanks

You may get lucky and they can fix it with an unfill. If not, you'll more than likely have to go through a revision. If they do the unfill the stomach can go back the way it's supposed to be. Maybe since they said you have a partial slip the odds are better that you can just do an unfill to fix it. Good luck!

Talk with your Doc and ask Him, if he can do a barium swallow and flouro then he can see everything that is going on , then he can make the decision as he isw the one who operated on you,

They did that Barium test this morning & those were the results. Well, that's what the technician told me. But, he's going off of what he's seen in the past with other patients & wouldn't really know what they do after they leave his office. He says he's seen worse SO I'm hopeful they tell me they can just do an unfil for a few weeks. That would be the best option.

I'm on a liquid diet for now, not having much because I'm afraid it will all bunch up in there & just sit there. I've been having back pain at the same time so I don't know if its stress related or what. My band is definitely uncomfortable but doesn't hurt as much as my back..

Gosh, I hate waiting...

Here is a Link that can explain the different types of Band slips better than anyone here since it's a Surgeon's guide. I'm surprised that the technician said anything at all to you since most of the time they don't for fear of Liability :o I hope this helps. And I HOPE you don't need another surgery :( Also IF you have a Slip and the Surgeon can determine what caused it I'd love to know as would other bandsters I'm sure it may help others. THANK-YOU

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
