Self pay, how much?

Recommended Posts

If you were self pay for your band, what was the total, if you don't mind me asking? Did your surgeon have a "package deal" with aftercare included?

The surgeon I am going to in Monterrey MX is going to cost me 9100. This includes airfare, and after care if I want to fly down there. But he help me set up aftercare here locally in the states.

When all was said and done I would say I paid just under 20,000. It would have been much cheaper to go to mexico but it just wasn't worth the risk to me. It was a big dip into the savings...but worth every penny.

$15k covers

- surgeon

- 23-hour hospital stay

- anesthesiologist

- 1 year follow-up care/fills, 2nd year if you lose 50% of excess weight in first year

no pre-op testing covered, but if you are healthy, the doc doesn't require any. I had no pre-op testing.

$8950 which includes all aftercare assuming I get myself to MX. I think I spent about $70 out of pocket for my pain meds, sundries, and tips. I was lucky to find a great deal on airfare which was not included in the package.

Tests, Hotel, and transportation to/from San Diego were included.

I would say it came close to 18,000 and that is without aftercare. Every visit is about 60 bucks and a fill with flouro is 200 and without is 75. The 18,000 was with some discounts because my mom works in anesthesia and is good friends with the surgeon. This is in Sioux City, IA.

I paid $8,500 for everything except airfare. Fills are $100 for the first year. I spent about $500 so far for airfare and food as well.

This price also includes the pre-testing (bloodwork, EKG, Upper GI), 3 post operative phsychological counseling sessions, 3 nutritional eduction visits, 3 spiritual couseling visits, and one-on-one excersice sessions with an exercise physiologist for a required 3 month period (at one the of the Hospital's Health Centers). I'm self-paying $12,800 with Dr. Oh in Federal Way, WA. This includes doctor's fees, his assistant's fees, hospital and anesthesiologist. I *think* it includes the first fill. Every fill after that is $105.00.

This does NOT include the massive preop testing though (11 appointments of procedures, xrays, classes!) My state DSHS insurance is paying for the preop stuff.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
