Day 3 post op...feel like a different person!

Recommended Posts

What a difference a day makes...literally! I was finally able to sleep comfortably last night for the first time since I had my surgery. I don't think I moved all night; from exhaustion or fear of pain, I'm not sure, but it was definitely nice to get some good, quality sleep! I woke up this morning with very little pain/soreness and so far *fingerscrossed* the gas pains haven't started up too bad yet this morning.

Today will be my first day home by myself since my surgery, as my hubby had to return to work today, and the kids will be in school. I have a tendency to want to clean like a mad woman when I'm here alone, but I know I still need to take it somewhat easy and NO LIFTING. I don't know what I'm going to do with myself all day, but I do know I'm definitely going for a walk at some point this afternoon/evening!

Hi Sarah, so happy for you! And the house to yourself -- it's my fantasy (doesn't happen very often!). Hope you can really take it easy and let your body heal up inside. NO CLEANING! Enjoy the quiet, the movies only you like, the sips of Water and walks around knowing that you've done this amazing thing for yourself. Best wishes and many congratulations. I am so excited to get banded and hope recovery is smooth as yours. sleep is a marvelous thing -- go get some more!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
