June 2006 Band Crew

Recommended Posts

Poodles, so happy to hear you've had one good day. You probably have unlocked the mystery to you band issues!!!!

I've been doing ok, but definitely not losing. I'm tight with stress or too much exercise. Otherwise, I can eat whatever I want if I take my time.

Maybe this is the month we all get it "figured out".

I figure I'd be losing if I really wanted to.

Tribon - good to hear from you and glad you had a good time on vacation!

Aimee - isn't it nice to know we have a band if things get out of control?

Barbara4 - You didn't mention, are you still ok with the fill?

Have a nice Sunday

I haven't posted in months! I was banded in June 2006 and have lost 20 pounds which I am thrilled with (I only want to lose 10 more. . .15 at most. . .and my accountant who is banded said the second year is slow but sure). I just wanted to touch base, find out if others can sometimes eat like a "normal" person (though it really is much less than pre-banding) and sometimes, "not on your life is one-spoonful of Kashi going in." I lose about a pound a month lately. Not bad, when in previous years I could gain 5 in a week-end.

And one more question. . .how do you fix the signature to reflect accurate stats...the little bar like-thing that records loss . ..

I have to say this is the weirdest thing. I tried it out this morning. Woke up and went straight for tea that I sat out on the counter overnight. It went down in small sips... the whole glass. Then I whipped up a shake, let it sit out for a bit, but first sip... too cold. An hour later tried again... and it was good.

CRAZY!!!! I figure I will keep it the same until my EGD on Friday, and if all is well stick with it. I am eating 3/4 cup at the most two times a day and having one Protein Shake a day. Silly band...

Way to go Poodles. Good luck with the EGD.

Deb - good to hear from you again. I'm getting more "normal" because I've learned to eat really slowly. Guess I kinda forgot that rule somewhere along the way. I ate l/2 bar-b-q on bun sandwich with onions and pickles today. The corn on the cob wasn't fun. I simply couldn't chew it down enough, so I gave up. I did toast the bun to "well done". Toasted bread seems to be easier.

There will always be food I don't care to tackle. Green Beans and brocolli are two favorites I may never enjoy again. I've found other new favorites - radishes and cucumbers. Time for a snack!

Today is "thumbs up" for the band.

Ok, I have a question, by show of hands: How many of you feel uncomfortable with every sip/bite of something? So many people say it is not "normal" and shouldn't be doing it, but every time I have a good fill, I feel discomfort/pain. Even when I say "it went down", it went down with discomfort. Is this normal?

Hey Poodles. I have the opposite problem. Everything goes down with no problem. Including bread!! I seriously need another fill. I am planning the month of August for a day off and hopefully a fill.

Regina --Count me in for the Dallas meeting. Let me know what time you are thinking. If it's in the evening (that's cool), I just want to book a hotel near the area you are planning.

Glad so many of you are checking in. I'm glad to also hear everyone is doing well.

Have a great evening.

Melissa

Pick an area in Dallas where there are restaurants and good shopping. :( I might as well do some wallet damage while we're there!

It doesn't hurt when I eat Poodles. Most of the time I don't feel anything. When I get stuck that's something totally different.

Poodles,

I do hurt when I eat too fast or eat the wrong thing. Almost every time! And obviously it does go down. If I'm stressed, it hurts with each bite. I still eat (and sometimes worry - but not enough to make me stop eating)

You might be tightening your stomach muscles without realizing it. The brain and fear and all you've gone through would make me tight at every little sip.

I've been a lot happier at meals since I've slowed down.

Barbara4 - Michigan house has moths flying out of my wallet. I'll be a definite shopper and not a buyer this trip. This "budget" thing is forcing me to practice my piano. Who knew?

I haven't posted in a long time......I posted recent pics on the pic forum. Anyhow....I have a hard time eating rice and french fries. My worst enemy is the McDonalds chicken Nugget!!! One day, I'll get you, and your little dog too :0

I try to eat slowly, but when things get stuck its not pretty.

OK went to Tai Chi twice this week. Yeah for me. Now I need to go to Curves a few times.

I'm doing well on eating. No more problems since Sunday. I seem to be back to normal, which is I can eat too much. I think my esphogus was swollen maybe from spicy food. Not sure, but that's what I figure at this point. It set me up and then I got on a roll with the PBs. I'll see how the rest of the week plays out.

Hope everyone else is doing well.

Glad to see you are doing well barbara. Tai Chi is so relaxing. I like doing Yoga with Rodney Lee. He is soooooo goooood... to look at. (hubba, hubbba!)

I stepped on the scale this morning and have lost 10 lbs in a week. I think alot of it is Water weight, since I can't drink anything most of the day. I am going for my EGD Friday, so I am going to see if they will take out .2 or so. I really want to drink in the morning. Today, even room temp things would not go down. I have resorted to non healthy items today, because I am so starved.

Basically, this is what I have had today:

9 am, sip of cool coffee, stop, sip of room temp water, stop

1 pm 8 oz medifast shake (over an hour or so)

6 pm glass of room temp tea

8 pm Protein Shake made with whey Protein and soy milk.

8:30 pm 1/8 piece of lunch meat, stop.

9 pm a dozen cheetoes, and two sugar free wafers.< /p>

Drinking water now so that I don't end up in the hospital...(my pee is nice and dark.... which is not good.)

I just don't get how some things go down and others don't.

I'm sorry for all your troubles Poodles. 10 pounds is awesome, but it doesn't sound like the healthy way to lose. Good luck on Friday.

I am maintaining at 180, but I am super tight. I'm continuing with hypnosis, but I've been bad about exercise. It's been pretty hot here, so I don't feel like exercising!

Hope everyone is doing well!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
