A bit of irony

Recommended Posts

So, I went to see my primary doc on Friday. Last time I saw her was in June. I was down another 16 lbs. and she was flabbergasted. Total loss so far around 85-86 lbs. She asked me what I was doing that her other patient's with bands were not as she told me no one else has had the success I've had. Told her I was just following the nutritionist's recommendations.

She asked me what I had eaten so far that day and when I told her, she looked at me and burst out saying 'that's not enough food!' I told her I didn't have dinner yet and when I said what was for dinner, again she said 'that's not enough food!'. Well...since I'm still 30 lbs. shy of my personal goal, and my pressure is fine, and I'm taking Vitamins and Protein suplements, she said I could continue as I was but that she was going to monitor my bloodwork to make sure I wasn't doing any harm.

I know I'm not...but I couldn't help think of how ironic it was to hear my doctor...or anyone for that matter, tell me I wasn't eating enough.... Kinda makes me smile when I think about it. LOL!

So funny! We call it Planet Hospital -- that whole medical world can be pretty crazy sometimes. My irony is having to keep my weight high for these months leading up to my surgery. Up. Just wasn't fat enough in the 240s, have to be 250 or else the whole thing is off. Good grief.

When my pcp prescribed a new med, I asked him the size of the pill to make sure I could swallow it. He rolled his eyes and said the bariatric surgeons really exaggerate the ability to swallow stuff after surgery, because none of his other lapband patients had any problem swallowing. :o I told him if his other patients could swallow big pills that their bands weren't property adjusted!

I just don't think the pcp's get it, but are afraid to admit they don't know something.

I agree mine was trying to talk me out of my decision when i went to get the letter of medical necessity. he was don't you want to try med's first? and then he was all why not the sleeve or bypass. i was a little shocked but ahh he still wrote the letter... and i got approved..

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
