Day 1 liquid diet

Recommended Posts

Well ... Started my liquid diet today & like thousands before me have stated: This sucks!!! I hope it gets easier as the days progress. What I don't understand is how is something with 43 grams of Protein not help the hunger & keep me satisfied, I swear these Proteins shakes go straight thru me ... I'm staying strong, but tomorrow is going to be tough since I'm going to conference & there will be a ton of food surrounding me. Here's to all those going thru the liquid diet!!

I start mine tomorrow. part of me wants to wait untill monday so i'll be at work all week. i figure it will be easier to deal with haivng work to distract me and i usually do good there with the healthier food options.. its at home that i fall prety to mindless eating. i've done the HCG diet in the past and managed so here's hoping the shakes keep me full as otherwise it's going to be a very LONG 2wks.. Best of luck on your jorney.

I thought I was going to die!...It was the worst 2 weeks of my life, I do believe... :( But just think of the outcome and your goal!!! My nutritionist had my drinking 5 shakes a day..7am, 10am, 1pm, 4pm and 7pm and 4 oz. of Protein every third day...It made it allot easier, to think I could have some meat during this time. I made it special and went to the Outback Steak house...Awesome! The fifth day I was sick, called my nutritionist and she said it was normal and I was just detoxing from the sugar's and carbs...after that it was ok...I worked and slept and just tried to stay focused...I lost 22 lbs. in the 2 weeks before the surgery.... It was worth the suffering....YOU CAN DO IT!!! :) :) :):D

Yeah, it sucks. No way around that! :)

Thankfully it's only a short period of time, in the grand scheme of things. You can do it!

The best advice I can offer (at one looong week in myself) is to be kind to yourself in every other way you can. Buy your very favorite sugar-free drinks. Get some of your favorite body wash, watch all of your guilty pleasure TV shows, even if they involve beauty pageants or Kardashians, and maybe treat yourself to manicure or facial if possible. Look for any non-food ways to make yourself happy and use them all!

Good luck!

I'm finding the hardest time getting a shake in every 3-4 hours, my job is very on the go & non-scheduled. So I'm more annoyed at the hunger than anything else ... What I really want is the Protein Shake to hold me over longer than 2 hours. It's hard to have the extra stuff (SF Popsicles & broth) at work when when I don't have access to either a microwave or freezer.

Day 5 of the pre-op Protein drinks...not so bad. I purchased the Unjury no flavor protein mix online and mix it in crystal light, chicken broth etc. It has no taste so all I can taste is what I put it in.

It gets easier try mixing crystal light as your liquid. Gives it bettee flavor.

Day 3 has been hard, b/w my nephew's b-day party (I really wanted the tacos they made) and the smell of bacon in the air due to my husband making it ... It's been tough. I drank a Protein Shake before I left for the party but it didn't hold me over. I came home with a horrible headache & also the feeling of the detoxing from sugar & carbs. I haven't given in ... I just really want a taco!!

KShannon. I was at my parents house yesterday and they were all eating pizza...I sat in the car so that I wouldn't be tempted. I wasn't hungry at all, but I really wanted the pizza. I didn't give in either, but like you...I really wanted the pizza!!

Have you tried having the taco meat and spices wrapped in lettuce? Once you are off the liquid diet of course :-)

I am on day 6 of pre-op diet and today I am STARving!! The shakes aren't lasting as long for me either! I gave in and had four bites of steak tonight!! Hungry for meat I guess!! I know the big picture will be worth it!! I never realized how much of a stress eater I am until now!!!

I bet that steak tasted soooo good!!!! And lettuce tacos sound just as good right now ...I'm on day 7 and the hunger has gotten better. I noticed I'm more acutely aware of all smells ... I smell everything - even if its so far away. I have just tried to remove myself from the actual site of the offending food ... I made sure I sat in the other room as my husband ate pizza tonight ... Funny thing is he is the one asking me to cheat ... stating who would know ... As I told him, I would & I need to know I can do this. I only gave in to licking the spoonful of Peanut Butter I was putting into my shake

Hi everyone! I'm new to the site, but I'm also in the liquid pre op diet phase of my journey. I'm on day 4 and I'm miserable. Like many of you have said, the Protein Shakes have not been holding me long at all. I don't know if its because of my size or what, but I can't stop thinking about eating. Today I went to The Vitamin Shoppe (retail store) and talked with their staff. They were so helpful, and I decided to buy samples of the Syntrax Nectar brand of Protein. They are isoproteins, so they mix easy. Zero carbs and 23g of protein per scoop, also only 100 calories. And honestly, the one I've tried so far (vanilla) tastes pretty good. Better than the Designer whey and Atkins products I've tried so far! I will admit that last night I gave in to my urges and ate a couple pieces of pizza that the rest of my family were eating. It was NOT worth the instant gratification that I got when I woke up this morning with a horrid stomach ache. I will not be doing that again! I did decide tonight that I need at least one food item I can physically eat everyday, so I allowed myself one string cheese stick with my dinner time shake. It's been almost four hours and I'm still feeling full. I'm hopeful the Syntrax shakes are the one!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
