I've been having UTI symptoms ( discomfort, urge to go) on and off for about 2 weeks... it was very random and doesn't happen everyday. So after being woken 4 times in an hour to go the other night, I went to my Dr. ... he prescribed med and lab work... lab work comes back today..no UTI.. I've been banded for 2 months.. could it be my new diet that is causing urinary irritation???? I am sticking to mostly a high Protein, low carb diet... could Ketosis be the culprit?? Any insight would be appreciated!

Was your kidney function checked as well? Ketosis and high Protein diets can cause a build up of Protein in the kidneys, which can result in a kidney infection. It happened to me many years ago while on Atkins.< /p>

If that's not the case, then you should follow up with your doctor to find the cause because it's not normal.

I get the exact same thing when I am in ketosis. I googled it and could not find a relation. I went to my doctor as well and no UTI to my surprise. I thought maybe I had irritable bladder, but symptoms go away when I am not in ketosis. I always know when I am in ketosis because I feel like I have a UTI!

Let me know if you find anything out, because I would love to know!!

p.s. mine is off and on too....not consistantly sore but it is certainly there.

you can get ketones test strips for like 10$ from Walgreen, If you are curious if you are in ketosis.

This is from WebMD about Ketosis. It would explain the UTI like symptoms:

"Unhealthy metabolic state (ketosis). Low-carb diets can cause your body to go into a dangerous metabolic state called ketosis since your body burns fat instead of glucose for energy. During ketosis, the body forms substances known as ketones, which can cause organs to fail and result in gout, kidney stones, or kidney failure. Ketones can also dull a person's appetite, cause nausea and bad breath."

hmm. may be time to reevaluate my eating.. I really haven't been purposely trying to "be in Ketosis".. I think it just happened due to my fear of getting in enough Protein (the effects of not having enough scare me) I really have been focusing on eating protein. And since I don't eat much, it seems all I eat is protein. I'll also have to mention it to my Dr when I go if I don't see any improvements in the next week...thanks for the info!

Have you logged to see if it diet related because there is a condition called interstital cystitis. Sensitive question but any pelvic pain with intercourse? It is common with ic. Google it and see if your sx match. There is also a list of foods to avoid for a while and see if it helps.

Maybe you have an over active bladder. Also B Vitamins and high Protein can cause this. I would go to a urologist though before just making any decision.

Well, I am not a doctor and I do not play one on t.v. **insert smile here**

However, I had the SAME issue; went to the doctor ---> NO U.T.I.

My doctor thought it might be a hydration issue. My thoughts "NO WAY"

I drink about 64 ounces of Water a day. She said that my goal

Water intake is one-half of your body weight. So, I need more like

100 ounces each day. When I tracked this, the "UTI-type"

symptoms vanished. Hope this helps.

Good luck on your journey.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
