Things I did not think about, that losing weight would change

Recommended Posts

I just realized losing weight should cut down on laundry costs. I will be able to fit a lot more size 8 in a load then 28s. What are some other benefits you have noticed or thought of that losing weight will provide. Not including the obvious things like health and happiness. A couple of mine to start off with is, my arms have gotten longer. Ok not really but my reach sure has. I can get dressed a lot faster then I did 80 some pounds ago.

I had to buy more layers of winter clothes, coz I get SO much colder than when I was big. Scarves, beanies, gloves, thick tights, all now part of my staple winter wardrobe.

And a banded friend of mine told me she's saving on jeans coz she doesn't rub holes into the thighs any more and having to keep replacing them.

Lellow I laughed out loud when I read your reply... my jeans ALWAYS worn out in the crotch / thighs from my legs rubbing together when I worn a size 54". I thought i was the only person with that problem.

I love it now that I can shop in a "normal" store but I do find in cooler weather I'm putting on an extra sweater or long sleeves becasue I feel the cold more now... buy hey it's a nice problem to have.

I've only lost about 20 pounds, but I can cross my legs now. I know that prolly seems trivial, but it is kind of cool!!

That is my first goal. To sit in a chair and cross my legs comfortable. Taking it one step at a time.

Yes, the leg crossing is HUGE! I was so excited when I realized I could cross my legs!

Because I started off as a 46W, being able to wear blue jeans at all was a huge milestone for me. I got my first pair when I got down to a 26W. That was the first pair of jeans I'd worn in literally 20 years.

Ok here's a funny one: It used to be if I dropped something while driving, I had to get out of the car and get it from the floor. My stomach was so big it actually touched the steering wheel even when the seat was all the way back. Heck I couldn't even fit into some cars at all. But now, I can very easily just bend over and get whatever I dropped off the floor while still strapped into my seat.

You'd be amazed how long it took a 488lb man to shower compared to a 260lb man!! And, I haven't busted a toilet seat in a very long time.

As for the being cold part I am dreading upcoming winter. I love the 100+ temps even with high humidity.

I did not think that loosing weight would change my marriage.

but it has some things are better and some things are worse.

For the better my husbandf likes to take me shopping for clothes he says I look good in everything.

for the bad : i use to do al lthe houswork and cooking and cleaning I now need time wo work out and I"m seeing that ui'm still doing it all I ant my husband jut to help out a little and maybe go for a walk with me before work and he wont. I notice he's gaining weight and i feel like he should be trying tro get healthy with me not gaining weight.

hahah let's see how many I can come up with (btw I love the laundry calculation ahhah)

1. I can fit more clothes in a suitcase for trips (or leave enough room to go shopping and bring it all back) bahhahahha

2. I can fit on rollercoasters, airplane seats and any other close or small sitting arrangement without feeling like I'm going to get booted or take over someone else's space

3. crossing legs..def

4. (TMI moment:) better sex, more flexible, more positions...and wearing lingerie with the lights on (you get the drift)

5. I can see my toes, I can bend, sit indian style etc..just overall more flexible

6. I have a major spinal issue in my lower back and the wl has helped tremendously relieving symptoms

But while on topic..here's the things wl has done that I don't like

1. I cant tell the diff between my son (10 yo) and my clothes when folding laundry some times = wasting time ahhaha

2. I can't manhandle my bull mastiff (130 lbs) when he wants to pull on his leash (hey some counterweight is useful hahaha)

3. my children can overtake me in our wrestling matches

4. I have this addiction to buying clothes in the junior section (their clothes CAN BE way cuter lol)

hahaaha

My new favorite is ONE SIZE FITS MOST includes me.

Since I fly a lot not asking for an extension brings a smile every time I put on my seat belt.

Running up the stairs at home without fearing that I might die.

Going up stairs without a planing list so if I forget something no problem going down the stairs again.

I am actually not looking forward to winter. Lol. The heat index, at the moment, is 103.. My ac is set to 80, would be more like 85 if I lived alone, and I'm sitting here in sweats and a hoodie.. And still cold. It's probably the one thing I wasn't expecting, I've always been hot natured.

Happy Changes:

Fitting better in airplane seats.

Shedding 10 years from my face.

My mom being proud that I am getting healthy.

My daughter and her friends saying I'm pretty.

My adult Grisly Bear snore has reduced to a bear cub.

People who haven't seen me in a while say "DAYYUUMM" before "Hello"

Ordering from the kids menu in restaurants and still having a doggie bag.

Paying the kids price at a buffet.

Controlling my portions in spite of how much food is around me.

Great dreams that I remember when I wake up.

Being admired.

Feeling enthusiastic.

Fitting in clothes I almost gave away.

Being able to take hand-me-downs from the sexy and stylish girl at work.

Not shopping at Lane Bryant, the Avenue, Strutt or any other "Big Girl" store.

Shopping in the Junior's section and looking good in what I try on.

No real cravings anymore.

Being comfortable in a 2 person go-cart.

Changes that require me to think:

Is this my underwear or my 14 year old daughter's?

Would this guy have been interested in me 6 months ago?

Will what I am about to eat make me slime? It didn't yesterday...

Things I miss / make me unhappy:

chocolate makes me PB - chocolate milk, a hershey's kiss, ice cream.

The casino buffet - I use to really put away the crab legs and lobster tails.

Taking 30 minutes longer to eat than everyone else at the table.

Being asked if I am losing too fast.

Being asked if I am eating / what I ate.

I could probably think of more, but this is my main list...as you see the ups far outweigh the downs.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
