First fill... Didnt go to great...

Recommended Posts

I was banded in 7/24 and had my first fill today.. I found out I have a 9cc band... My surgeon tried really hard to find my port with no luck... He used the ultrasound to find the right spot.. It is roughly 5 in below skin level... So pretty deep... He stuck me in 2 different times with no avail... He did use a local anesthetic to help with numbing.. Thank God.. He couldn't get I kept hearing the needle brush against the plastic.. It kind of freaked me out... He then went and got his PA and she ended up getting it in.. So I was poked 3 times.. I hope that never happens again... I had 2.5 in my band from surgery and had almost 2 put in today.. So I am a little under 5 cc's... Keeping Water and Soup down with no problems... Hopefully next time won't be as rough.. Really sore tonight.. liquid lortab here I come!

same think happened to me today, I had a slight unfill today, I was stuck on food and had an emergency visit, he took out 1cc but he couldn't find my port and kept moving the needle around and poking it in and i was like hello it hurts hurry up and find it please. Luckily he did on the 3rd try.

I had surgery the same day as you! Had my first fill yesterday, but no problems because I workout a lot my port was very easy to access he got in on the first try! I go back in a month. But at least I was released to do strength training again and off to the gym I went!! Hopefully your next fell will go much better!

On my last fill the NP figured out that my port is hard to find when I'm laying down. It's easier to find my port standing up. Hope you don't have to go through that experience again.

ouch i know how you feel i had a slight unfill today due to being way too tight and he had to dig around to find my port but he finally did with one stick with just a little digging and it makes you so sore. i hope that next time things go smoother for you and best of luck to you

I looked at your profile and read your story, wow, what an inspiration you are to others. Not only did you lose weight before lap band but then to make a life long decision to have lap band and lose more to keep it off. Hats off to you my friend.

Hey Doll.... Im not sure what your doctors fill procedure is but, if i may make a suggestion..... Have him place a pillow under your back. This will push the port forward. This is what my doctor does and i have never had trouble with him. I had a fill with one of the other doctors in my surg office and he didn't use the pillow instead made me do a crunch... it was terrible.

Try it at home. Lay on the floor and place a pillow under your back.... see if you can feel it..

Not sure if it will help.... but good luck.

Just to add- my doctors office will ask me to put my hands behind my head and lift up slightly- as if I'm doing a crunch. It helps lift the port up so it's easier to access.

I hope next time is easier for you!

kbell... that's how the other doctor in the office does it.... for me it was not good, but others may be ok with it. I just prefer the Pillow. Plus my doctor like to talk... a lot... hehe

Keep up the good work...

I had a TERRIBLE black & blue from my first fill. He poked me in the first spot (I didn't even feel the needle because he was pressing down SO DAMN hard) then he looked at my post op esophogram to determine the exact position my post was in and found it in SECONDS with the next try. My question is: WHY didn't he check the x-ray first!!!!! Gggggrrrrrr!!! Anyway, my second fill is tomorrow, and both prick sites are still visible; however, I HAVE been marking with a pen or a marker the right spot.... And the black and blue is almost all gone.

I had the same problem with my first fill. They couldn't find the port. Tried three times then went and got a longer needle and tried two more times! Finally she found it, not where they usually find it, so we measured to make sure the next time it would be a breeze and it was!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
