I can't believe how many people are certain that I will be kidnapped or killed in Mexico... Can you please address the process of transportation to and from the airport as well as your stay at the Marriott. Anything you can comment on about your over all safety in general would be appreciated.

I cant answer your q

I just wanted to let you know that some patients who go to Mexico for surgery have a harder time finding a dr who will do fills for them back home

Dont ask me why.

I just relocated to Canada (from US). Before I even said anything beyond I have a band, they said did you get it in Mexico because if not we cannot treat you. Say what/?? Fortunately I had my band in VA, but I just didn't want you to be confronted with this obstacle since fills are vital :)

Good luck on your surgery

PS I intend to ask the doc why no mex. patients. Will post why later

I'm confused, will they treat you if you got your band in the US or Mexico!

my experience in mexico. driver picked me up at airport and took me to dr. office which was attached to the hospital. driver will also take you to hotel but i didn't stay that long. you don't have to walk anywhere unless you just want to. there were 3 other girls that were picked up along with me. i didn't have any problems finding a local bariatric to do my fills. n fact there were at least 3 that would do it but i picked the one that a friend of my goes to.

dawalsh, I checked with two local doctors to see if they do fills for patients who had surgery in Mexico. I checked BEFORE scheduling my surgery. Both do fills.

I had my surgery with Dr. Ortiz and Martinez in September. I feel great probably 98% healed and feeling better than prior to surgery as I've lost 30 lbs since pre op. I live in California so I have been to Mexico several times although not recently due to reports of crime and kidnapping. With that said I was just as nervous as anyone else but have no fears! They picked us up at the border parking as I didn't want to drive in Mexico due to insurance. The driver was English speaking and with in 10 minutes we were in the underground parking of the clinic/hospital. Up the elevator we went and arrived in a very nice lobby. Far far nicer than the doctor in my hometown. The clinic doesn't look too old and is well designed and decorated top notch. There is a cafeteria downstairs and my friend loved the food. After surgery they wanted me to spend the night but I preferred to go to the Marriott as the bed was bigger and my friend wouldn't leave me. That was a good decision as I felt pretty good considering.

The same driver took us to the hotel which was full of employees to meet us and meet our very need. I have never seen a hotel with so many employees. I'm sure some were security. The staff all understood where we were from and why we were ere. They were familiar with the package we paid for. The hotel was just as nice as any other Marriott. We never went outside the hotel or hospital. Maybe if we were there longer we would have but my friend speaks Spanish and I can understand a lot. One patient said they went shopping. The area for the hospital and hotel (which is ten minutes away from hospital) are in typical TJ neighborhoods which is a mixture of old and uncared for with newer modern buildings mixed in. There is probably less regulations on building or maintenance than in USA . Also there are a lot of people in TJ very populated with people on streets panhandling or selling stuff. There was none of this on the Marriott grounds there were so many covert security people everywhere it was amazing. I felt safe and my every need met. They did not ask for tips but they were ready to help you and answer questions. the Marriot grounds were well cared for. No complaints.

Our room was typical Marriott quality. The dining Restaurant was very nice and they were prepared to meet my dietary needs. My friend adored her food. She raved about it.

The package included my food and a continental Breakfast for my friend . I am going by myself for a fill and tooth whitening next week and will have them pick me up at the border again.

Getting back they take you to the border gate where they put someone in a wheelchair so that we can all go through a special gate for invalids. They took us to the least busy crossing which was further away from our parking but since they drive us its not a big deal, Just a longer ride. We had to take our luggage with us across the border and through X-rays. This means you must lift it yourself or your companion must help you. You will have to walk about 3-4 blocks to meet the ride at the corner as he can't pull up to the border building and must wait down the street (. That confused us but we has a repeat visitor who knew the ropes). The van must go through security Nd X-ray this is why we had to get out.

No big deal just like airport security. Border control is USA people on that side going out.

I cannot thank you enough for taking the time to go into such detail. I am so happy for you and the success you have had so far. You will do great!!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
