One week post op today

Recommended Posts

I am one week out and feel good! I am o er the hump and couldn't be happier with my decision! I am a low BMI and only had one week of the pre op diet in which I lost 5 lbs....so I stepped on the scale this morning and am down another 7 lbs! 7 lbs in one week?? Crazy right?. So total down is 13 and I am o er the moon!!!

Still swollen and stomach is still bloated so I don't look any different but I know it's happening!

I'm right there with you! My surgery was last week too and I'm down a total of 11 lbs. I can't wait for the bloated feeling to be gone, the swelling to go down and look in the mirror and be amazed. I'm so happy with my decision to do this.

Oh that's great! I know it's coming off but don't know where lol! But don't matter right? I'm glad to see your in the same time frame as me. Please keep me updated as I will to you, it's nice to have someone at the same starting point as yourself! Are you having any issues?

I seem to be on track as to where I should be I think....I am experiencing diarrhea daily a d don't know if that is normal. I go back to dr on Thursday and will be scheduling my first fill 4 weeks from now. How about you?

They didn't schedule for me to go back until Sept 5th, and said that would be my first fill as well. They have called to check on me and told me to schedule an appointment to come in sooner if I'm having issues (which thankfully so far I'm not).

The stool reminds me of baby diapers - more liquid and kinda a yellowish color. But that's because of the liquid diet. Gotta figure the only real thing we taking in right now are the Protein shakes. I still have quite a bit of gas, but I've been told that's to be expected since they inflate air during the procedure and it takes time for it to escape the body. I'll be glad when that's gone, this bloated feeling is really the only discomfort I have right now.

I agreed, it's great to find someone who is at the same stage. Looking forward to helping each over the rough Patches and cheering on our successes.

I'm in the Houston area - where are you located?

Sorry for the duplicate...don't know why that happened. Makes sense with the stool. I am from New York. I just learned that my fills are not covered and will run 155 dollars per. I hope I won't need many lol! My gas has diminished a lot but my belly is still very distended. My port area seems to be ok as well, I've read many fellow banisters have many issues with the port site. I can sleep on my sides now which I am grateful. I still get winded a little which is expected...hey it's only been a week right?. Sounds like we are doing great!

I will be 2 weeks post surgey on wed. I am still slight swollen but it's getting better. I've lost 18.8lbs since preop diet. It's an amazing feeling. I see a big difference In my face already. When I lay on my back I deff feel my port I'm hoping that's just bc I'm still a little swollen and not going to need to be re hidden later on.

Congratulations! I sure the swelling takes a good 4 weeks. Approx how many calories are you getting in daily?

Great weight loss! How many calories are you averaging daily? I am averaging 500 and scared my body will go into starvation mode but having issues getting any more,

I only did 500 for the first 10 months, no problem here. Then I went to 600 for 4 months, hit my goal and now I am at 800-900 while maintaining. Just listen to your body. Don't add calories just to add them. Just make sure you are eating Protein and healthy! Great job!

I hadn't thought about the cal intake. Just figured it out and looks like I'm averaging around 600/day. Most of that is the Protein shake. Feels like I'm drinking all the time, but it's just Water or unsweetened iced tea. And I usually end up pouring half of that down the sink. Right now, I just don't want anything. Hope that feeling stays when I get to eat soft or regular food. My fear is that when I am able to take an actual bite of something, it set off a feeding frenzy.

On the positive, prior to surgery my greatest vice was Coke. Probably drank a six pack a day. I'll admit I cheated on the pre-op diet a few times and had a coke. But since surgery, I haven't had a desire to drink one and no withdraw headaches or cravings. I truly believed that was going to be my biggest hurdle. And it turned out not to be even be a bump in the road.

I'm 8 days post-op and feeling great the last few days. I am on thick liquids this week and moving to mashies next week. The first six days I had no hunger but on day 7 the hunger came back with a vengeance. Anyone else experiencing this?

I'm booked for my first fill in 2 1/2 weeks time and hoping that I won't feel so hungry after that. I still have some tightness where my band is after eating and my port sometimes feels like it is "pulling" if I lay or bend funny.

That is how I was! Don't miss the soda at all, actually it tastes terrible now. I stayed with that full, I don't need to eat feeling for 10 months. It was awesome. The hard part is just eating out of habit! Good luck.

That pulling feeling is normal. Remember, it will take a while to heal. It took me about four weeks before that pulling sensation went away. Just a reminder that you need to take it easy!

Well just finished week two. Total lost is 13. (11 in week one, and only 2 in week two). Guess the swelling has gone down because I'm getting hungry now. Still trying to figure out if I'm really hungry or just used to eating at certain times and just "think" I'm hungry. But when my stomach growls, I know I need to eat a little something.

Anyone else have a slow second week?

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
