So, been banded two weeks from tomorrow. All the bandages are off, incisions look great and I feel terrific. Ok, a little twinge every now and then near the port but nothing that I can't handle. Shut up and ask the question, dave.....My question is the port area still protrudes out there a bit more than i thought it would. It's like a lump near the incision. Not infected, not red, just more noticeable than I thought it would be. Do you think there is still swelling in there and that it'll settle in after awhile? Maybe be less noticeable? Just wondering... -Dave

Depends upon how much belly fat you have covering it up....I have zero belly fat...the only thing covering my port is about 3/8" of skin layers.

It sticks out like a golf ball...very noticeable, including the tubing.....can palpate it and feel every nook and cranny, even where it is anchored to my abdominal wall....

i was super morbid obese and after surgery, i asked my dr if he actually put a port in there as i couldnt see it nor feel it..true story

the more weight you lose, you will begin to feel it better or see it (i can only reference what is happening to me)...there more i lose, the bump where it is gets more obvious....i dont mind seeing it...its my war medal that i earned fighting the obesity war.....and i am winning

I remember reading just the other day that someone had some Fluid around their port area that didn't drain after surgery. Once they went in for a fill the doctor drained, I think it was 7cc of fluid, and they were fine. Just tossing out an alternative idea.

Thanks everyone! I'll wait and see what happens as time goes on. I want my six-pack back eventually, but maybe I'll have to settle for a seven-pack! Oh well, totally worth it in exchange for my health.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
