Banded monday aug 5th

Recommended Posts

Banded aug 5th! Home and resting somewhat comfortable. Well as comfortable as I can. Gas and shoulder pain seems manageable for day 2 or would this be day 1 if I was banded yesterday?

I have been looking for posts after surgery for months.I still am waiting for my patient advocate to reach me for my consultation. So, I'm still in the beginning stage. Thanks so much for sharing and do keep us updated.

I am coughing also, getting phlem up too. I didn't know that was going to happen. I also keep my heating pad on my belly and another on my shoulders. I am having a hard time getting fluids down. Just feel like its forced and there is no room. How about you?

I hope you get some progress with your process. It is a process for sure. I started the first week of April with my initial consult. I am a low BMI'er so I was accepted due to co-morbidies such as sleep apnea and high blood pressure.

Thanks! I was so nervous about the after effects too! I was driving myself into a state of nerves, now that its said and done, it really isn't anything you can't handle. Just keep in the back of my mind that it is TEMPORARY and it will get better every day! Good luck you will do great!

I'm able to get my fluids down but only small sips at a time using a straw helps me. After about a half cup of broth I feel full.

Not sure what other Drs say but mine said no Straws- again remember each Dr is different and go with what yours says --But his reasoning is that you swallow too much air with a straw and take a bigger amount of Fluid in with a straw..he said small, small sips.... if it works for you great but just be cautious if you see a "problem" in the future it may be the straw

My nutritionist said that the no straw thing is for bypass patients not band patients.

I'm not allowed straws either. I can handle fluids but small sips at a time. I used to be able to down a bottle of Water or drink a 64oz water bottles in 4.5 hours. Now a bottle of water takes me forever to finish. I am handing food well still on mushies but I haven't had a problem with anything. I just can't eat a lot. Tomorrow i will be 7 days post op

This may be a stupid question.but why the shoulder pain?! Ive read on a few posts about this and maybe I'm missing something but i can't figure out the reasoning behind it

I'm inclined to agree with your nutritionist. I've been banded since December. I was an overnight patient. I was given straws to take my Clear liquids with. Taking gulps would have been hard on my swollen stomach. My doctor is not against

Carbonation either but in very small amounts. I guess drinking too much fizzy drinks could dialate the pouch.

Thanks Ms. Kat. You have no idea how you guys are putting my mind to ease.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
