long time since last fill

Recommended Posts

Can someone what one can drink or eat after you get a fill. I haven't had a fill in a super long time and I got one on Tuesday which puts me at 9cc. But I forgot what I can or can't eat and I ate some thing this morning that got stuck in my back and I was miserable. OMG I was doubled over for hours.

Doctors usually have their own individual guidelines that they go by but mine says soft liquids/protein shakes for 24 hours and then after that I am on my own to eat/drink whatever.

I would be cautious and take it slow. Perhaps you ate to fast or to large of bites?

The doctor tells me the same thing....liquids after a fill for 24 hours and then a regular diet so long as I could tolerate it.

Usually after a fill my usual surgeon recommends 3 days Clear Liquids. Seven days full liquid. Then as tolerated per nutritional guidelines. Shocks my metabolism! Works out great! With exercise during that time the weight just melted off. I had to start seeing a new surgeon and he said that was just my surgeons recommendations. His is 24 hour liquids. Then as tolerated. It really depends on the surgeon. Sometimes you have to just learn yourself what you can do by trial and error. Its a hard way, but I had to do the same

Hi Mandy! I'm glad you went to see a new surgeon because the first doctor just wanted to see dramatic weight loss advising you to do three weeks of liquids after a fill. I remember losing 11 pounds when I did only 5 days of liquid diet preop. I know that many Bandsters in this forum are going to do more that one or two days of liquids after a fill because we all seem kind of desperate to lose weight, but I wouldn't do it because I know it is unhealthy! Personally speaking, I have been following everything my doctor tells me and I've been doing fantastic. The weight is coming off slowly, but I feel great! And that's what's important. I'm not having any hair loss, pbing, vomiting, port pain, lack of energy, etc.

Hi,

Your first surgeon's diet after a fill seems rather drastic and not safe. My doctor requires only 24 hrs of liquids after a fill then soft foods as tolerated and the3rd day regular diet. I'm losing slowly and I'm glad for that. It's better to have a gradual weight loss than a rapid weight loss. Your new surgeon seems to have it right.

Thank you all for your advice. That pain was so unbearable, it felt like a gas bubble that was stuck and would not burst. I kept PBing and throwing up but it did not relieve the pain I felt in my chest and back. I feel much better today, I went back on liquids and mushies.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
