Debbie, I can't believe you have grandchildren?! Am I reading that right? To me, in your pic you look like you just got out of college??

I am a little disappointed because I'm not losing as fast as I was before banding on the low carb diet. That was super fast and now things are slowing down til I get my first fill. I am finding it hard to eat so little. I want more still! Is that bad?

Yes, I am a grandma, I am 48. I have 4 grandkids (9,6,3 & 2). My oldest son is 30 - he has 3 of the grandkids. My daughter is 26 she has a little girl who is almost 3. yes, if you do the math, I started young but these 4 little people are the biggest reason I want to get healthy! I love hanging out with them but boy are they exhausting...lol!!

As far as the weight loss, I am with you! I only lost 1 lb last week and nothing the week before. And now I'm finding I want to eat more all the time, just will power is stopping me. I am hoping that fill will hurry and get here!

I don't think it is bad that you want more...just choose healthy. I found a special k Protein bar and half an apple sliced thin and eaten slowly will satisfy me for longer than cottage cheese and yogurt. You should try it...

Just a thought but if you're not losing or feel like with all you're doing that you should be losing, check your calorie intake. If you've been consistently consuming the same amount of calories for two to three weeks now your metabolism may be slowing down. Give it a good jolt to wake it up. Throw in a little extra to try and get a couple more hundred calories in and see what that does. It should wake that metabolism right up and burn some pounds. It's a highly effective trick that a lot of people use. Just be sure and get back to where you're supposed to be calorie wise after you've splurged a bit.

I am at 3 weeks since being banded and am finding I can eat anything with no problem. Which is a good thing or a bad thing because I feel no constriction. I am trying to eat around 600 to 700 hundred calories but maybe I should up it a little. My first fill is not until Nov 13 so I have a few weeks before I may get some relief.

I'm a little discouraged too. I consume around 700-800 calories a day and have been going to the gym. I've been doing everything right and my weight is stuck. I'm upping my game and going to try to go to the gym every day (even if it's just for 1/2 hour). I was going every other day. I had my first fill on 10/15 and it didn't help one bit. Little angry at my doctor because I'm self pay and I found out he put a large band in me. I got 2 free fills with my surgery. They charge $200 after that so I think I'm looking at some money just to get in the green zone. I know they do that so they can make more $, but oh well! I've lost about 23 pounds and I should be happy - just having discouraging day! Thanks y'all!

Ok it's been almost 8 weeks since surgery. I have had 1 fill of 3ccs. On the 12th I'm going on.this Friday for another fill. I have stalled, and seem like I'm always hungry,, however I have been stuck about 3 times before fill and once since. ( learning to.chew) .... Also having issues with not drinking while eating..I have to work harder..

I went.to my local thrift store, and bought a few shirts in 2x size..so I have incentive to lose to wear. I have lost weight 40 lbs since start of adventure in April, my 32 pants fall off so do my 30s.. 26s I put away cuz they were to small can be zipped up with out laying on the bed..

I need to get back.to.the gym.. Just haven't wanted to.. Lol guess I'mbeing lazy.

After this coming fill. Hoping to start my journey again, and start the gym..

So I today I was super hungry today, so I tried my old low carb favorite, a whole wheat pita with turkey and cheese (went down just fine but I only wanted half) for dinner and after about an hour and a half, I tried an ice cream cone from McDonalds. (Why, you ask? Because I'm stupid, obviously!!) Well, about 10 small licks into it, I was done. I barely could eat any, even though it melted and went down like milk. That was surprising to me, but also it made me happy that I didn't want it and couldn't really eat it. Definitely learned my lesson. I will stick to sugar free popsicles, my new favorite.

I'm tired. I've started back to work - where I never sit down and hardly have time to shovel in any food. Luckily I haven't been super hungry. Definitely not getting enough to drink either. Today I had 2 cups of coffee, ensure high Protein Shake on the way to work and at about 10 I ate 2 scrambled eggs. Wasn't overly hungry for lunch - basically just a serving of steamed broccoli with ranch and 24 oz of Gatorade. And at the end of my shift I drank a Special K Protein shake. I got home from work around 9 pm and decided to just go to bed. I had gained a few pounds back since surgery on 9/26 but since starting back to work (my workouts) I've lost about 3-4 pounds lol. I'm ready for my fill on 10/31. I have no clue what size my band is or whether or not I already have any Fluid in it. I haven't been exercising because I hate to do it but totally know I have to! I still crave the same foods but I'm fortunate that I can't eat what I used to as far as quantity. I'd say I'm eating 1/2 as much as I was prior to surgery. But, I'm hungry now after typing all this...lol. Really need a chef! :) looking forward to dropping more weight!

Georgia it sounds like you need to buy one of those CamelBak things so you can always get plenty of hydration while you work!

I am supposed to be eating 1/2 to 3/4 cup right now, but I need about 4 meals a day to stay satisfied on that amount. I am thinking that my problem is that I am not getting enough Protein and that i might have to add another shake each day. I get my first fill on Nov. 7th and I wish it was already time. I am now at 198, but I have gained and lost 2 lbs this past week since I have not been able to get to the gym or go walking. Though now I know that if you do 40 loads of laundry and deep clean a couple rooms its a good workout. My friend thinks I am awesome since I did all this for her while she was on vacation this past week. Hopefully she can have the garage sale before her children and dogs mess the clothes up again.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
