Yay! Im so happy for you! Thank you for letting us know. Glad it went really well with hardly any pain. I hope you'll keep posting about what it's like post-band!

I see a new surgeon tomorrow to arrange taking my band out.

Good luck with your band removal.. Hope yours goes as well as mine...I'm wondering what it's gonna feel like to have my old appetite back, so nervous about re-gaining! Gonna try really hard, still gonna make good choices and eat slowly, like I did pre-op.

Thank you!

You sound good! I find that having lost 80 pounds I can exercise a lot more easily, so Im hoping that when the band is out and I feel good again, I'll be able to exercise to keep weight off. Hopefully my diet will have me losing weight, as well. Im scared about the same things you are. I love being at this lower weight and hope that continues to motivate me. I just know that in the past, emotionally I can get to a point of "I don't care" - so I still need to adress what brings that on.

Thank you for sharing from the point of having problems with the band thru the removal! You have been really helpful to me.

Keep going in the positive direction and don't let anything stop you!

Hi again!

My surgery is scheduled for Monday Sept 16th! Band Removal. Im excited about it today -- but will probably get nervous the closer the date gets.

How are you doing? What are you able to eat? Are you feeling significantly better than with the band?

Thank you for sharing your experience!

Hey! Glad you got a surgery date. I doing really well, I can actually drink Water first thing in the morning and it goes all the way down! Can also swallow my meds again. Still somewhat sore, but not near as bad as getting the band put in. The gas pains are not as bad either.

I had to eat full liquids for 2 days, then puréed foods for 2 days then mushies for 2 days. I think I'm gonna stick with Soups and stuff for the puréed stage and then to mushies....food is going down really well!

Im glad you're doing well!!! My doctor is estimating I can return to work (clerical) in 1 week. From your experience, does that sound reasonable?

My surgery is on a Monday and I would like to take a week and then return to work on Wednesday. I always have Fri, Sat, Sun off from work, so I'd just work Wed and Thurs then have 3 days to relax and assess.

Are you eating?

My surgeon didn't give me any special pre-surgery diet -- just no food or Water from midnight on. My surgery is at 1:30pm :(

After surgery the directions say to go back to normal eating -- but these seem to be a standard sheet they hand to everyone. I don't plan to eat normally! I will have smooth Soups and Protein drinks, I think. Just ease back in.

Are you glad you had the band taken out? Can you do regular activities and drive already?

Thank you again for sharing! I live alone, so want to be prepared in every way possible.

My surgery was on a Monday also. I had to spend the night though. I think so my insurance would pay for it. Doc said I had a lot of scar tissue on the back side of my band that could have been causing the spasms.

I'm not going back to work (clerical also) until Tuesday after Labor Day. I guess I could have gone back sooner, but I don't know....still a little weak. In the hospital I could only have ice chips, then after I got home full liquids for two days, puréed for two days and mushies for two days. After that food as tolerated.

I'm glad right now I got it out because I feel so much better!

I wonder why there was scar tissue especially on the back of the band?

My surgeon said he would talk to me before surgery (but I wont remember) and also after surgery (but I wont remember)...do you remember talking with your surgeon? Or did you have a follow up appointment already?

I just want to be done. Sept 16th seems so far away right now.

Im glad you feel so much better now!! What a relief! We are the same height, but I am now at the weight you started from. I have a ways to go on my own.

Has your surgeon suggested a specific diet to follow?

Mine suggested doing a modified Mediterranean diet. He also suggested looking up Ketogenics. He's had a lot of success with metabolic stuff -- people follow what he says and end up not wanting weight loss surgery; they are losing the weight on their own!

I am grateful for the chance to begin again and I bet you are, too.

Hang in there! You are well on your way!

I don't know why scar tissue was where it was, surgeon didn't say, all I know when something was stuck pretty bad it would always hurt in my back, kinda like I was feeling it finally going through and it hurt!

Got to talk to the PA before surgery, didn't see the surgeon until he released me...my husband talked to him after surgery and told me what he said. Some one will be with you, right? They gave me something to relax me right before taking me to the OR. All I remember is the bright lights.....which is totally fine with me, cause I'm a big baby, too! The worst part for me is getting the IV, they had to try 3 times! I was not happy about that......

I'm glad it's over, food is going down real easy now, had chili Beans for dinner. I think my stomach has shrunk, I ate about as much as with the band. Hope it stays that way, but I know it won't.

My doctor hasn't suggested a diet yet, I go for a post-op appt on Sept 11...they do have a program for people that has not had surgery..... I don't know, I think it's diet pills and stuff like that. Been there, done that! I wish you the best of luck on your journey after the band, I know it's gonna be difficult, I know our appetites are gonna come back full force..... Don't know much about the Mediterranean or Ketogenics...I'll have to look that up. I would love to lose it on my own. I'd really just like to stay where I'm at, that's difficult too.

Best of luck to you! Sincerely, Ellen

Hi Ellen!

How are you feeling today? Do you feel like you are healing pretty fast?

I got a letter from my doctor today taking me off work from Sept 16th thru Oct. 2nd (when I will see him)...so back to work on Oct 3rd if all is well.

I have a friend who will drive me down for the operation. It's a little over an hour away. I'll spend the night and my friend will come back the next day to get me. So there won't be anyone there right after surgery unless my friend decides to stay.

How is your appetite? Sounds like you are moving right along with getting to regular foods.

I bought a crock pot today! I plan to fix some easy, healthy meals. I also have a Ninja blender and make green smoothies with Protein powder in them. It's a good way to get some fresh vegetables in.

I hope we can both deal with whatever comes up appetite and cravings-wise.

I am also going to be assessed for thyroid issues. I will see a doctor who prescribes T-3 alone, instead of the combo of T-3/T-4. Apparently some people are very successful taking T-3 alone in terms of weight loss.

How many days did you end up taking pain meds? I filled my prescription today -- I have Percosett. I have some liquid Tylenol here, too. So Im all set.

Are you still feeling weak? I am hoping to feel like walking within a few days of surgery. There is a beautiful trail I like to walk that is about 1 mile long, shady and by a creek part way. I hope to get in the habit of walking a mile or so every day.

Do you have any regrets? I don't regret having the lap band. I think it has served it's purpose. I wish I had sought the opinion of a different lap band surgeon early on, when the symptoms first appeared and my own surgeon did not respond effectively. But that is the only regret I have.

I hope you're doing well and enjoying life!!!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
