BringingSexyBackToTX 51 Posted July 23, 2013 Yo-yo'd with weight? Makes sense with a dilated pouch...able to eat more per serving....that is my warning sign' date=' but instead of continuing I do my version of the 5 day pouch test to give it a chance to recover.... I'm surprised this person could tolerate and eat/drink beyond the pain....[/quote'] What is your "5 Day Pouch Test"? 1 Faith-ster reacted to this
PrettyThick1 1,860 Posted July 23, 2013 How are you feeling today? Are you having an easier time? Yes, thanks for asking! I feel much better today and have been able to eat a normal amount without any adverse effects!!! I'm eating much more slowly and definitely not drinking before or during a meal. Maybe my last fill just needed to settle down. But it is definitely better than yesterday!!! 1 Ivy Verde reacted to this

jaye282 79 Posted July 25, 2013 The rule of not drinking while eating is old school lapband rules. Your allowed to drink while eating now. My surgeon, nurse practitioner and nurses just got back from a lapband conference in, Las Vegas and now they say drinking while eating does not push the food on through as originally thought. Instead it acts like a washing machine keeping that food moving around in the pouch. In essence it helps to keep you fuller, longer. This doesn't mean your allowed to guzzle. Drink like normal. One small drink at a time. If your thirsty, one small drink every 15 seconds. If drinking makes you full faster then make sure you eat your Protein before drinking. 1 BringingSexyBackToTX reacted to this
emeryhns 30 Posted July 26, 2013 It will push the food down into the lower stomach faster. And you'll find that drinking while trying to eat some foods is disastrous. Things will get gummed up and plug the stoma. And when the food can't move through' date=' the esophagus keeps working and working, but the Gummy glob won't go through. Then there's no turning back. Either it comes back up or you sit with the "deer in the headlights look" until it passes through.[/quote'] That sums up my life...lol...it's habit I just have not been able to break. lisabenband 30 Posted July 26, 2013 I just had an X-ray with my last fill and the doctor told me my pouch was slightly dilated and I had to stop drinking with my meals. I stopped now. Usually it just makes me throw up anyway 1 B-52 reacted to this

Does not explain my experience....I CANNOT drink while eating.....PERIOD.....I guess my success is all old school....but it directly contradicts what you say.... What is your experiences? B-52 7,113 Posted July 26, 2013 There is a video on You tube that shows what happens when you drink after eating with a full pouch. It pushes the food through faster than it should go down and you become hungry again. All the above postings are correct about that. It has to be true...it's on the Internet...... People are more successful when they find out and practice what is true for them.... Some can drink with meals, some cannot....some drink carbonated, some cannot, Some eat rice, Pasta, breads, etc...some cannot..... Each person has to figure this out based upon what works and does not work for them. 1 drehn88 reacted to this
jaye282 79 Posted July 26, 2013 @b52 I think the word "drink" is an over-statement. I drink when I'm not eating but while I'm eating I do sip Water. I don't take a bite followed with an immediate sip of water. I do it in-between. This is extremely beneficial to lapbanders who are constantly thirsty and tend to guzzle to quench thirst. I'm always thirsty and always have a drink. My husband calls me big thirsty lol. When I eat I get extremely thirsty and sipping water helps because I have tendency to guzzle. Just because you see it on YouTube does not make it true. I also saw a video on YouTube that recommends putting butter on burns, anorexia is the new healthy and acrobats for newborns is beneficial. The only correct thing you'll learn about lapband is from your surgeon and your own lapband. My surgeon says if I can tolerate it I can drink while eating and it doesn't wash the food down. I'm listening to him.
susancwalker2008 70 Posted July 27, 2013 This is exactly what happens to me. It's horrible. I drink a on before I eat and wait, at least an hour after. I experience it differently.....food will sit in my pouch for. Certin period of time...add Water and it will instantly increase the volume in my pouch , perhaps instantly double it...causes a lot of extreme pain, possibly from pouch stretching, and in most cases I will spit everything right back up. Think of a funnel with a narrow opening....whatever you put in the funnel will flow through the opening, how fast or slow depends upon the size of the opening..(restriction)... Now add Water into the funnel with something already there passing through slowly....what happens...washes it through? More likely, overflow over the top of the funnel.... Of course, if you have a large opening, not in the Green Zone, then I can understand water flushing food through.....all depends upon howmnarrowmthe opening is.... I CANNOT drink while eating without adverse, and possible damaging (dilaton) side effects. But that's how it is and has been for over 2 years now with me. bsellis 105 Posted July 27, 2013 It's interesting to hear the different opinions. My surgeon said if you drink with meals you won't lose weight. I'm going to trust that he knows best and follow the rules. I sure will miss my spicy foods though!!
jaye282 79 Posted July 27, 2013 I drink with all my meals and I've lost 30lbs. My best friend and I have the same surgeon. She's lost 56lbs and she also drinks Water with her meals.
