Due to recent posts, and doubts I'm having based on that and some other things I've come across- I'm requesting to push my aug 5th surgery date back... I want to talk to my surgeon and feel sure of my decision! I've been 100% sure that this is what I want until the last week or so... This is too big a decision to make with doubts. Just hope I can decide soon. I've sent an email to my surgeons office asking what my options are for switching my surgery date. Guess we'll see!! So disappointed in myself but just not feeling good about it like I was !

You shouldn't let anyone on here give you doubts about something you were interested in doing. Yes deciding to get the lap band is a big decision but it also is a different lifestyle too. If you went through the seminar, researched the lap band and talked with your doctor it shouldn't be a problem. Everyone on here has different "rules" to follow because every doctor is different. Get as much information as possible before you make a final choice. Good luck with which ever you decide. :)

I think it's a great idea to wait if you have doubts. I looked into lapband surgery long before I got it, and each time I thought I was ready to commit, I'd change my mind. Once I did commit, I went in with my eyes open, determined that I would work with it the best I could, and meet the the lifestyle changes and the possible complications if they occurred head-on if I needed to.

Even when I had the option of revising, I did the same thing - weighed it all up. You need to be sure. And if you're sure, you're more likely to embrace the lifestyle, if you're sure, you'll be more resilient if it isn't easy (and it's not). You roll with the punches better if you're informed of all the good and the bad, and you choose it anyway.

So I commend your decision.

Thank you so much! It's not that anyone has influenced me, however I started to think more about the future and less about the immediate lifestyle change- that I was ready for... What I'm not prepared for is possible complications, even life threatening ones, and the possibility that I may not be approved for reversal ... How would I afford that? Then i started to consider how close it is, and these questions are too real and too important to ignore. Just hope I'm making the right decision

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
