Hello everyone. I was banded July 15th, and I can relate to the hunger!! I started Protein Shakes which helps, my dietitian said that was ok, but today i had yogurt with some fruit blended in until smooth and for lunch I had some split pea Soup that I blended until smooth and that kept me full for a while. The broth and Popsicles were just not cutting it. I felt like I was eating (drinking) constantly. My stomach was growling all the time and growling feels really weird now!! My dietician said liquid, but it doesn't have to be "clear" liquid so I think it's ok. The broth they gave me in the hospital is thicker than the broth you get in the store. I'm going to keep going with that, still soup but if it has chunks it goes in the blender. My reason for doing this was to not feel hungry all the time!

Hi Stephanie! I am 9 days post op and started eating mashed potatoes, very thin ones and that definitely helped me. But I didn't start that until 6 days post op.

I'm expecting to feel my old nemesis, Hunger, until I'm in the green zone (and then will continue to be on the looking for Hunger's skanky sister - Head Hunger). I've made my peace with it. I need this to work.

I also tire of my vanilla and strawberry powders. Sadly I don't care for the choc ones. To make them more interesting I've been into smoothies. strawberry powder with some diet lemonade blended with ice is diff enough that it feels like variety. And then you can get more elaborate from there.

Excellent idea!!!' Thank you :)

So yesterday I had my one week follow up and I learned some interesting things that someone may need to hear. Ok my left shoulder pain is not gas but the muscles that are around the hernia that was repaired are in the same area. Never knew hernia muscles went up to the shoulder. Ok the thick flem I had and sore throat is due to having thrush. I got a strong antibiotic and medicine that you gargle and swallow. Let me know if names are needed. No BM or BM not on the horizon take 2 tablespoons of Milk of Magnesia followed by warm Water. If no BM repeat in 3 hours. Good way to relieve gas: get on your knees and drop to your elbows. Gas travels to the highest location to be expelled which would be your....rear end!!! I did try this and wait for it.....yes, it worked.

I was in heaven today because I am finally able to advance to full liquids versus Clear Liquids which I have been on since 7/11. I actually ate watered down grits and almost cried!!! I'm a southern gal and the grits were fabulous!!!!

Banded on Tuesday, July 16th.

We were delayed in Houston for the night after my surgery due to weather. I did not have my first dose of pain medicine until late in the evening on post-op day 2! OMGosh it was rough!!!! The drive from Houston back to Louisiana was..lets say intense, w/o anything for pain (i would not wish that on anyone!) My poor husband was having a "brain-fart" and thought we could not get my prescription filled until we got back home.... dear Lord i tried to "hint" that they have 24hr pharmacies across the U.S. but he was not on the same page! I did learn that I could endure WAY more pain than I ever imagined.

It's late Friday; post-op day 4 and it is getting easier every day. Removed my 3 small bandages today and took a shower, then I was exhausted and took a nap.

Down 10 lbs since surgery and 22 from my heaviest weight.

Noticed that I am never really "hungry", I just try eat or sip (up to 2 oz) broth, Protein Shake, juice or Water at least every 4 hrs.

I have been walking around the house and in the backyard with my puppies. Occasionally feel the gas pain but it has really not been that bad. I actually walked up and down the hotel room the night of my surgery. I was up nearly every 2 hrs to urinate and walked several laps before going back to bed. My abdomen remains sore, esp near the incisional areas. I still require help sometimes getting out of various positions but otherwise doing great.

GEAUX July bandsters !!!!

I have a friend trying to have the surgery and can not afford the 28' date='000 . Can you give me an estimate of how much it is in Mexico? Don't mean to be nosy and understand if you do not want to.[/quote']

I was self-pay and it cost $9,888 here in Houston at True Results with Dr. Hollis (he's been a surgeon for 20+ years and was previously an ER doc). The $9,888 covers everything even one year of fills. And he was GREAT (so far)! I'm having hardly any trouble/pains other than a little sore in my belly. I'd recommend him anyday... and for sure over $28,000 you are suggesting.

I also was self pay with Dr. Hollis in Houston also. I put 4388 down and financed 5500 at 190 a month for 3 years.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
