August 6th...time for a healthy change. anyone else new in august?

Recommended Posts

It also took me a good week and a half to feel ok. I barely ate anything the first week and I'm still not eating much but at least I can look at food now without feeling nauseous. Doctor gave me Zofran for nausea. I was also really weak and tired the first week and a half but my energy level is up now and I can accomplish my daily functions (work' date=' errands etc.).[/quote']

Sounds like I need that nausea med. I'm on my 2nd day postop and feeling the pain the nausea and quesiness down my esophogus. I take alot of pills but the liquid ones have a horrible taste I'm mixing it with Water now but most of them I feel might irritate my new tummy because I don't have any food down there. I'm taking gasx helps the pressure. But I have constant headaches and not able to take the meds I once did. I feel just plain sick. But there's a ray of sunshine down there somewhere.

I'm happy for u that the first two weeks have gone by. Hopefully it's mostly uphill from there.

Hey everyone, just checking in. This is day 3 post-op and today I woke up feeling almost human. Very little pain, just soreness at the port site. No nausea thank goodness - my doc gave me tons of anti-nausea meds which I guess really did the trick. I'm really tired and want to rest a lot but overall things seem to be going well!

Hi Again all!!! I hope everyone is doing well!!!

tomorrow I start my 3 day liquid diet! I am very fortunate that I don't have the two week liquid diet that many bandsters have ( I think that would kill me )

As time begins to dwindle down to surgery day, a lot of questions are starting to arise that are scaring me!

  • Will my personality change? ( hope not!)

  • Will I enjoy the new attention? (probably not)

  • Will people still see me as smart and caring, or just pretty and thin? ( probably not )

  • Will my relationship with my long term boyfriend change? ( hope not!)

  • Will I give up on this, like i have on EVERY OTHER DIET? ( god, that scares me)

I have always seen my fat suit as a curse, but the closer I come to taking it off, the more I realise how much I care about it.

The last week or so, I have really begun to analyse myself, and I have had overwhelming feelings of missing this body (to the point of crying!) This is the body I am so used to, how can I be happy and adjusted in the deflated version of this body??

Anyone else had these feelings?

You are not alone. I have always used my weight as a joke. My husband told me that he hoped I didn't leave him when I was skinny. I reassured him that I wasn't going anywhere. I would hope my personality will change for the best because I will have more energy. I understand all the questions but the bottom line is that you are doing it for you and for your health.

All those questions you have asked yourself, I personally have asked myself too. There is a part of me that wonders how I will react with positive attention. I have also become accustomed to being overweight. However; I'm now ready to get rid of the 'extra baggage' per say...... I'm ready to enjoy things that I have missed out on in the last ten years.....I'm ready to get my 'old self' back.

Good luck, on your new journey! Sending well wishes your way!!

Hello to all from Joe in NYC. I was banded two weeks ago today' date=' and had my first esophogram and first follow-up appointment. Things are going well, down 25 pounds in a month - I did 2 weeks of Protein Drinks pre- op. I'm scheduled for 1st fill in two weeks. Looking forward to getting to know everyone.[/quote']

Welcome Joe! Way to go on the weightloss! I was banded 10 days ago. I meet w my doc on Tuesday. I'm curious how much weight I have lost. I did the 3 day pre op & lost 6 pounds. Hopefully, I have lost more post op ; )

How's everyone doing? I'm 8 days post-op and im still having a hard time. Need to know if anyone else has felt like this. I feel really weak from not eating but then if I have something I get nausea and just feel ho rrible for hours afterward. I had my first follow up today and the Doc said everything looks great but I don't feel great. Is this just me?

I feel the same. I'm on 10 days Post Op & still don't feel up to par. One incision is very sore. I don't know if that is the stitches healing or if I pulled something? I know, I'm not drinking enough & not getting all my Protein in. I'm so over the liquids also. I had a meltdown today, (while my family was having McDONALD'S), & I had my pureed Soup. I just wanted a drink of Coke so bad & a bite of a McChicken. I just walked away. I'm very weak too. Also, the temperature where I live is very hot. So walking is out of the question for now. Even when I walk, I get weak very fast. I just know, things will get better in time for both of us. Hang in there!

I've had many thoughts like that. Up until the surgery I kept my positive thoughts but I was banded 2 days ago and I feel terrible. I have to take 20-30 pills a day which I'm not because they upset my stomach. Otherwise some gas some pressure some pain. The meds are affecting me because I don't have anything in my stomach. About a dozen small sips of tea a couple bites of popsicle ice chips and 1/4 c chicken broth. That gave me alot of heartburn. But I'm trying to keep a positive outlook. Just a week of this and then 2-3 wks of thicker liquids. Don't keep second guessing yourself. I've always used my weight as a shield against unwanted advances. I've been married 45 years lovingly and mostly happy. So my life was saved by my dh and I need help to bring myself to a personal happiness. Banding has been the only option. Goodluck. Think positive. Your pysche will change along with your body but it doesn't have to be in a negative way.

I think we all second guess ourself more than once. Because I'll be four weeks out as of Tuesday and I just have times where I'm like I wish I wouldn't of done this and last week after being put in the hospital I was mad at myself and my doctor asked why I was crying I just told him its hard and he said it will get better. I still don't get a fill until September 10

I am laying in bed on the 3 rd day after surgery wondering if this will be worth it. I just had a little chicken broth and my stomach hurts. I have been drinking fluids just fine but my breathing is short and I feel tightness in my chest. I had a hernia repair as well so I am sure that is bothering me too. I just want to cry.

I had my surgery on 8/14. Feeling much better but still sore around the port site which kinda burns most of the time. After I eat or when I'm close to being done it seems to hurt a little more. I feel like that area bulges out a little more too. Is that a sign of fullness? I'm just trying to figure everything out. Don't think it's anything stuck. Not drinking liquid with meals either. Any ideas for mushie foods? Also having trouble getting enough Protein in. For those recently banded it does get better a little bit each day. Remember to rest and take your pain meds!

Cwinkler we have all had second thoughts and doubts about this process. And I think you raised some important thoughts... We won't be the same people at the end of our journey. The journey will change us. We will feel better about ourselves, be more outgoing, and have more energy. We will be better versions of ourselves!!! I think our relationships will be better because of how we feel and how we live. I can't wait!!! How is your pre-op going? I had to do four weeks!!

It really does get better. You're in the worst of it now but each day you will feel better, I promise :)

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
