If you're that worried about all of the restrictions with lapband then have you considered bypass or sleeve?

Sorry, have to STRONGLY disagree here!!!

My best friend has the sleeve and it's no different than my experience. She gets sick from certain foods, can't tolerate carbonation, has sliders, etc.

The ONLY difference I can see is that I can still get fills, and she's able to eat more per meal than when she first started.

There is no other difference!!

Let me tell you something, if you have something that is your weakness and you give then it can easily become your downfall. If you drink 3 sodas a day and think you can cut them out and then just start only having one a month then let me tell you it's a hell of a lot harder than you think. Once you burst that bubble it's VERY hard to put it back together.

I agree with Guy, I have kept the soda genie in the bottle for the last 8 weeks and was planning on letting it go once for my birthday, but now it is a source of personal pride on making it each day without one.

Well I can hinestly say that I am getting less cold footed about it the more people I have telling me not to do this that I could eat less and exersize more...etc. etc. The more I wanna do it and after I lose the weight flip em the bird and tell em to take a flyin kiss and my skinny white a$$ lol so far I have pretty well gotten rid of soda I dint buy it by the case like I used to if I have one it nay be once every 3 or 4 days but its getting longer inbetween them... and also I realize that smokwing isnt healthy period no matter how much u smoke even though compared to most people I have known I smoke way less anyway but I have been with the help of my mom slowly weaning myself off cigarettes I got down to 5 a day and as long as I had them I couldnt go any lower but today I had three and that was then end of the pack and im not buying anymore (fingers crossed) I hope anyway I have wanted one off and on this eveining but since I dont have any just used will power to not even think about it... plus I have been switching between mind occupieing activities such as computer games focused on strategy and heavy thinking to keep me preoccupied so I dont think bout cigs much and ill switch games or go watch a tv show or movie when I start getting bored... so if I can give up cigs and soda...and oh btw I can handel the protien drinks now just an aquired taste I guess don't like them but I drink em anyway so if I can do all that I know I can have this surgury and stick with it forever and prove everyone wrong so one day I can go to my high school graduation and rub it in all the people I went to school with that even though they made fun of me for being fat im the one laughing now cause they are fat and im not

I can and DO eat everything on your list except carbonated drinks. And a few times I was craving a coke so I opened one and left it in the fridge for a few hours and drank it flat.

I've taken 15 months to get to decent restriction. I went slow because I don't like being too tight and I want to get used to each level before getting tighter... My weight loss is great' date=' but probably very slow by many people's standards on here.

15 months ago I started at 266, I'm around 190 now, but still losing every month. I was a size 24 pants, I'm now size 14. I was a 3x top, and now wear a large or medium. I look AWESOME, feel sexy, but most of all have my old energy and brain focus!! I'm MUCH sharper at work and have more stamina.

Don't worry. This experience feels natural. You'll eat what feels good and avoid what doesn't. It's up to you![/quote']

I spoke with the nurse at the clinic again and she said she didnt really go into much detail with the post opp diet because it can get confuseing for people to think about all the different things they have to do and they get them mixed up ... and she was right even though she didnt speak much on the long term after banding diet I still got the pre op diet switched around alot lol so im content with the way things are going so far and my progress... im hopeing by the end of this week they will call mw to set up my surgury for two to three weeks out from them... so wish me luck

I am getting banded on August 14th. The nurse told me soda, bread, and Pasta were out. Those are going to be a challenge but I am up for it. I actually stated weaning myself from soda and it has not been that bad. When I want a taste for something other than Water, I simply add crystal light. I think the bread is going to be my biggest issue. People are different and will tolerate food differently. I saw my friend who was banded a couple years ago with a strawberry shake so she does not deny herself. It just finding what works for you and what doesnt

I remember hearing a few years ago that too much crystal light was bad for you because it had some ingredient in it that over an extended period is bad for you

This may be the wrong time for you to decide to have the lap band surgery. You have to want the weight loss and health benefits from not eating and drinking those foods anymore. You have to really really want it. Right now it doesn't sound like you want it. You're choosing bad foods over weight loss, plain and simple. I'd suggest writing down five strong reasons you want to lose weight and live a healthier longer life. Read those reasons for a day or two. Figure out which is more important to you, those five reasons, or ice cream, soda, and obesity. The band doesn't do the work for you. Even with restriction you have to make good food choices.

That's great news! This is an emotional journey and we feel all sorts if things about foods we have to give up and life style changes we have to make. Its good to talk about them honestly because other people can relate and share with you about their challenges, and I find that that's been helpful to me. I've never been a huge soda drinker, but when I learned that this was something I had to cut out of my diet, the craving for it was incredible :) but we CAN do this :) I think it's fine to avoid social gatherings or situations sometimes, especially in those early pre-op days where pressure may be really great ... I think the key is to do what is right for you in that moment. This is a brand new life :) I was banded on July 15th ... it has been a rewarding journey so far ... keep coming here ... you can also join groups on Facebook. I find it so helpful talking to other people in like and different stages of the journey because they understand. Good luck :-)

Lull ow made a good point, I didn't pursue the band surgery until I was ready to make the lifestyle food choices that needed to be made. I'm now comfortable with the idea of trading food or better relationships and a healthier me. D it when it is right for you, don't rush it.

I am scheduled for surgery Thurs. and I am getting cold feet. I have managed to get a Migraine thinking of all of the restrictions. It is down right scary.

I too was told no bread for the same reasons, never ever again.

I went shopping yesterday for all the necessities and it was mind blowing. I couldn't find any liquid Tylenol and was totally confused on Protein Shakes.< /p>

Are the fills painful?

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
