Nervous Newbie! Surgery in 1 Week!

Recommended Posts

Hi, all!

I'm new to the boards and am one week out from my surgery date. I'm excited beyond words at the opportunity ahead of me. I know it will require a lot of work and discipline and that the band is just a tool.

I feel sure that my biggest challenges are exercise, chewing food thoroughly enough and not drinking during meals. I welcome advice from anyone who has had sucess overcoming these issues in particular. I'm especially curious about what you all do to encourage accountability on your exercising.

I'm happy to be here and looking forward to meeting everyone!

Thanks,

Melissa

Welcome and congrats! I was banded on May 1st 2013 and it's still an adjustment for me. For the excerising I work two jobs so there will be nights that I will try to talk myself out of working out. I have a wii fit at home so I always tell myself just work out for 5 mins and if I don't want to continue then I will stop. Those 5 min turns into 40 mins! The chewing part I don't have any good advice for you but for me I am afraid of having a "stuck episode" so I make sure I chrew my food throughly. For the drinking during meals I keep my water bottle out of sight! Before my meals and after my meals. Out of sight and out of mind. I hope this helps. Good luck to you and I will see you on the other side soon!

I have surgery in 2 weeks! I'm still on pre-op diet but I'm still trying to exercise. After speaking with a personal trainer, my doctors etc. I was till not motivated. After thinking about things that I like to do that are still considered exercising I decided to try some of them. I've been swimming and dancing. Swimming at the gym and dancing at my house (just so I don't scare anyone with my crazy moves) haha Also maybe once we start losing the weight we will become more motivated to exercise in a regular sense! Best Wishes and hope all goes well next week!!! :D

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
