GAINING after a fill?

Recommended Posts

This has never happened to me before. I had a fill 2 weeks ago, but instead of maintaining or losing, I have GAINED. I have done very well and this is the first time I have GAINED since surgery. At my last appointment, I had lost 12 lbs in the month prior. The doctor did a fill at that visit, but I have done nothing but gained. I am up about 5-6 lbs. Nothing else has changed other than the fill. I met with the nutritionist that visit, and things were fine. I didn't change how I was eating or anything. I am doing what I have done since surgery, which until now has brought amazing results.

Has anyone else GAINED after a fill? I called the doctor's office because I was concerned. They said as long as I feel fine and am able to eat, they will just see me at my next appointment July 11th. I am just so frustrated right now.

There must be something you're forgetting about. Bottom line is, more calories burned than eaten equals weight loss. I know your metabolism can slow but not normally so you put on weight. Try myfitnesspal app, it tracks calories and exercise etc. you should be aiming for 60-80g of Protein and between 1000-1200 calories for continuos weight loss. If you exercise try doing some interval training to kick start your metabolism. This band is a tool. We still have want it bad to get to our target weight. I'm a way off yet.

Good luck

I can gain 5 lbs of Water simply by eating too many processed carbs, sodium or a combination of both. Look at what you're eating? If it's high in processed carbs and sodium, that's the villain. It can still be low in calories but excessive simple carbs and sodium can make you retain Water.< /p>

12 lbs in one month is a lot and you may have lost a lot of excess fluids last month and now you're retaining fluids?

Weight is NOT calories in calories out. Sorry! I say that with all due respect but metabolism is one of the most complicated things on earth. The same calorie foods may be digested differently- how they raise/lower blood sugar, cause cellular inflamation, contain Fiber, etc.

That being said, its really easy to eat more than you record- an extra spoonful here, tast there. Be honest with yourself. Eat low glycemic, non processed foods and especially avoid sugar and bread of any kind. If you kept your exercise the same, change it. Your body adapts. You either need new type or higher intensity. And as the above poster said, its possible to retain 5 lbs in Water. Best of luck!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
