Hello, I have BCBS-TX, I have my approval where they will pay 80% of the surgery and I will pay my 20%. I was told that the doctor and the hospital are two separate bills. Will not be hearing from them until the end of the week to know my exact cost. Was just curious did anyone else go through this surgery with BCBS-TX and about how much did you have to pay out of pocket. Would greatly appreciate any information! Thanks!

I have bcbs tx but it's trs active care since I work for a school district. I had to make my deductible then i had some kind of copay for the surgery. I owed the surgeon and the hospital separately before surgery. It was almost $4000. I received some bills in the mail that i havent addressed yet. True results said it shouldn't cost more than that so i guess I should call my insurance.

I was told today that my physicians cost will be 388.00 out of pocket but the hospital will be calling me sometime next week. I have a 2000.00 out of pocket cost which I only have 1683.00 left to meet and BCBS told me they could not charge me over the 1683.00. I'm just curious how much more will the hospital be than the physician. I already have my surgery date set for July 2nd. I just don't want anything to postpone that. But BCBS acts like they don't know anything. One person will tell me one thing and the next person on the phone the next, Just so confused.

I have BCBS TX also and my doctor just submitted my paperwork to get approved for surgery. I was just wondering how long it took you to get approved after you submitted your paperwork.

I have BCBSTX and my out of pocket was: $525 for the surgeon ($300 was my deductible, which I had not met for the year) and $1,200 for the hospital. The total cost for the surgery was $7,000 at West Houston Medical Center, Dr. Christopher Reilly.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
