slipped band only after 6 months!?!

Recommended Posts

So I was rushed into surgery Tuesday night because my xray showed a slipped & twisted band! Now how the hell did that happen?? Well according to my surgeon medicine can make the lapband too tight by irritating the stomach. Considering the fact that im on 2 different steroids for my asthma didn't make my situation any better. My body just didn't feel right so I went in for a check up and that's what we discovered. So back to step 1 for me. But I cant be mad because I did lose over 50 pounds. This is even more motivation for me!

That's awful, will they fix it or are they removing it ?

Very smart, when something doesn't seem right, call the doctor. Sorry to hear your asthma is so bad. What are they going to do about the band? Feel better and rest.

I'm sorry, I did not understand what caused the slippage and the twist. Can you explain it again. I just got banded and would like to avoid the problem if I can.

They gave me the options of removing it or replacing it. I still think the band is a great tool. If if happens again then I'll have it removed. Steroid medications usually makes a person gain weight no matter what type of medicine it is. After taking them so long your stomach can get irritated and and may swell a little. My stomach was so irritated it pushed the way band down. I wasnt in any pain until it began to twist. Just be careful of the different medications you have to take. If you have to take alot take them at separate times of the day to give your stomach a rest

This is a completely random question, but I am paying out of pocket for my band. What happens if it slips and I need surgery? Will that be covered? Hmm...

I dont think so... my insurance company told me the procedure was covered if it slipped. That would horrible not to be covered

I had a perforation so I need a revision the doctor who specializes in this stated my insurance would pay bc I did cash pay for original surgery and this is deemed no elective

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
